Christmas Pudding

So today IS Christmas. The way it works in France is that the kids wake up early to find out that Santa Claus has come during the night (through the chimney pipe...) and has dropped their gifts under the Christmas tree. The most religious families go to Mass (if they have not already been at midnight) and start preparing the food for the Christmas lunch which will always end up with La bûche (as seen here), a delicious Christmas cake. Why is it that when we want to celebrate something - whatever the culture and the religion is - we need to stuff ourselves with food?!

  1. Merry Christmas. The Christmas cake looks fabulous. At least you don't stuff yourselves in France like Americans do. I think we have the market cornered on the whole over eating thing.

  2. Sorry, I hit the send button too fast. Looks delicious here from Florida. Growing up in Florida we always ask, "But how does Santa visit us since we don't have a chimney for him to come through?" Mom would reply, "He comes in through the Florida room of course!" And while other kids were leaving milk and cookies for Santa, we had to leave Orange juice!

  3. joyeux Noël! We live in South Carolina, however for Christmas we follow my Mother-in-laws traditions. As a result we spend two days making tamales. They will never be as good as hers but the pleasure is in making them as a family. Keep up the outstanding photos. They remind us of when we lived in Belgium and made frequent trips to Paris.

  4. It makes me very happy to come to your blog each day and see photos of a favorite city.
In response about making a daily photo blog specific to my city, I try to keep mostly anonymous in blogland and therefore don't want to say where I am. I also think I'm more interested in city life so my town isn't such a great daily photo subject.

    Merry Christmas to you!!

  5. Merry Christmas everyone! We love to eat for two reasons: because God remembered to put taste buds on our tongues and because food can just taste so good... especially French food. That's my opinion. ha. curious, is there a little snow on the ground in Paris now?

  7. Michelle Fry: don't be so sure Americans have the lead on overeating, especially over the holidays :-)

Well, Eric, isn't it just for the entertainment of beginning a diet afterwards ?
