Gorillas not to miss

Let me introduce you to Kingga a 10 month old Orang Outang who was born at Le Jardin des Plantes' menagerie (Zoo) where I went this week-end. Her mother would not take care of her so the humans had to take over... The Jardin des plantes (5th arrondissement) was created in 1739 and is an absolute must see if you come here. Not only will you see plenty of animals (they say it's the oldest zoo in the world!) but also a large variety of plants and trees. I just love it!

  1. This is so cute Eric and I love the title! Like Gorillas in the Mist! Or as Grace once said on Will & Grace, "Goya in the midst".

Was that baby food she's feeding her?

  7. I missed this "must see" on my last visit. This is a nice picture. Did you have to fight the crowds to get a clear view?

  9. Yes, that's a rock star hair style for sure. All this baby needs to complete the look is an earring and tatoo. Good to see it enjoys yellow veggies--a good source of vitimin A! A splendid shot, Eric!

  13. How wonderful! i saw a documentary once about how the zookeepers had to take care of baby orang utangs beacuse of violent parents in captivity. The keepers do their best to get the babies big and strong enough to fend for themselves.

This is a great shot Eric!

  14. so cute ! and so strange for a baby to look already like an old one. Did you know that the Jardin des Plantes is also the first public garden in Paris and the oldest zoo in the world. By the way, I may think the garden is older, I would say 1640, under Louis XIII (?) At last, I love your blog...

  15. ooh! I've been there! We had a little time before we had to catch our train out of Paris and we went to the zoo. Very fun, the orangatans especially.

  16. Does anyone else feel like this in the morning before coffee? Well, it's an endearing photo nonetheless. With the mayhem and destruction filling the news, it's good to be reminded of compassion.

A late Happy Bastille Day to all of France. I have been celebrating it here, so I haven't checked the PDP comments for a few days. Viva la France!

  17. natalie...I never thought of that as a suggestion for people who get to the train station early. It's right next door so why not a last minute Paris sightseeing visit such as a trip to the zoo! Excellent suggestion for others!

  18. This is so funny and precious. Her adoptive mother also needs to run a comb in Kingga's hair :-)

  19. I do Michael! Obviously they were "before my time," but not only did my father raise me on his music, but I was the only of his kids to actually enjoyed it. I love the Monkees! But not gorillas. They aren't near as cute.

  21. Eric, I believe the world's oldest zoo is in Vienna. America's oldest zoo is here in Philadelphia.

    Michael, I'm a "Daydream Believer".

  24. You are so clever with your titles. Love the puckering lips. We have a great zoo here in San Diego, I'll look for a giraffe for Metaphysicalmama.

  25. LOL Felicia and Metaphysicalmama....

I would think that metaphysicalmama could conjur a giraffe up herself if she put her mind to it!
