Crossed lines

Weird effect isn't? I took this photo last evening in the Tuileries Gardens (1st arrondissement) where, every summer, they install a small amusement park. They have a Ferris Wheel of course, but also this flying trapeze. I love the contrast between the straight Haussmann style buildings in the background and the cables holding the free hanging baskets in the foreground. As you can see the heat wave is history: now the sky is grey and it's a little chilly!

  1. Nice composition and really cute picture! I like it a lot! Hey, these guys are pretty big, is this a merry-go-round for adults?

Congratulation on finally reaching the end of that heat-wave. Feels good, doesn't it? :)

  2. Oh yes! But now we complain because it's cold. I had to wear a jacket today!

And I hear the heat wave is in the US now... Not in SF I suppose (although you said that last June was unusually hot right?)

Yes, this merry-go-round is more for adults than for kids.

  3. It is a weird effect. I had to look at it a couple of times before the picture made sense to me. Very nice.

  6. I really like the effect all those lines have, and the colored spheres above give amost a happy musical notation to the scene. It would have looked very different with blue sky. Hope you took a whirl!

  7. Really nice photo. You have an eye for interesting shots. Great job as usual. I'm glad to hear it's cooler for you. It also cooled off here.

  8. I rode one in High School with my Dad--he was behind me, but he passed me in the chair! I guess he was heavier... :)

    Thanks for the memory!

  11. Fabulous photos Eric! Skilfully taken. Your photos give a wonderful flavour of the most romantic city in the world. I was in Paris this March. I try to visit every year. I'm an artist and love wandering round the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay and all the other art galleries and museums.

I never get tired of Paris. I like visiting in the winter months. Paris is delightful in the rain. I usually stay in a little hotel in Malmaison.

We live in Wales (pays de Galles) UK so it's very easy to get to Paris.

Thanks for sharing these lovely mementos of gay Paris.

    Regards from Rusty

  13. Bonjour:

Those balls look like Christmas ornaments!

I love photos like this that juxaposition contrasts, etc., and jumble our perceptions.

    Peace,

    Steve in, finally, cool Chicago.

PS: currently we have a collection of Tall Ships docked along the river and lake directly downtown. What a blast to photograph. You can get on board and take a tour.

  14. Those games scare me. High buildings and those parks are terrible for me. I like horses , or wheel of fortune. hehehe

  15. Now, if you had taken a photo of you in one of those chairs for the "self-portrait" day, that would have been something!

  16. Great. As soon as I leave after being in France for 3 weeks it finally cools down there and then heats up here in the US.

    sigh

  20. Great!
They didn't have it last year, did they?
I have tried such flying chairs recently in Parc Asterix. That was great fun! I felt I was flying.
