More Christmas decorations

A lot of people write to me to ask for more Christmas decorations. So, here you go! One of the most original ones, in my opinion, is this one, by the Saint Germain de l'Auxerrois church where I had a meeting yesterday evening (not in the church, in a café nearby!). It looks like angels' hair.

PS: Françoise Piron (the French teacher you might remember from this post) is currently looking for a high-school English clas - and teacher - based in France, who would be happy to video conference (through Skype or MSN Messenger I suppose) with her students. If you're interested please email her at fpiron (at) spartanpride.org.

  2. Angels' hair. Lovely description. Isn't it lovely. So delicate and different.
re: your message at the bottom, i am a qualified English teacher to speakers of other languages! I am not, however, based in France! I've emailed Ms. Piron anyway. I think perhaps Eric, you left the .fr off the end of the email address did you? Thanks for that anyway.

  4. That's the spirit! :)

Eric, no matter how anybody feels about the commercialism of Xmas, etc., I think people still want to see Xmas in Paris.

By the way, is there anything interesting maybe on Place de L'Hotel de Ville for Xmas? Is the Eiffel Tower red and green these days? Just curious.

  8. STUNNING ERIC!!! Must have taken a lot of work to get all those "angel hair" light strands to hang just right...one of these Christmases I'm gonna BE there to experience it first-hand! ;-) Thanks for the daily beauty you send out to each and every one of us here in DP land! XO

  9. Great perspective Eric. They seem to put more and more decorations out each year in Paris. Mostly subtle though...

One thing I don't understand are all of the Christmas trees they "flock". I don't know what other word to use, but it's when they cover the trees (real ones) with fake white snow. I just don't get it...

  10. i like in christmas that it seems all the cities turns into lights for at that times. In Hungary actually this is the only event when the life REALLY stops for a few days.

  11. Yay Michael's back! We missed you..
I saw some decorations like this on another DP photo the other day but can't recall which one.
I'd love to be in Paris for Christmas or New Year.

  12. I might be wrong Eric, but wouldn't it rather be the 1rst Arrondissement City Hall, just near St Germain l'Auxerrois church. If I remember it well, this city hall was built by architect Jacques Hitorff (also architect of Gare du nord an some typicall parisian "mobilier urbain"), in an almost complete symmetry with the church. Between them stands a little tower with a nice "carillon".

  13. So, are there angel's on the Elysée palace or something similar?

  14. Michael, Glad your back. Flocking was big in the States a longtime ago. Then, it almost left the scene. I only see it now and then. The trees looked like they were dipped in cotton. Folks claimed it kept the needles from falling. Do you remember covering the trees with spun glass (angel hair)? I didn't care for that effect either.

  15. Wow! Those lights are spectacular! Inagine the unenviable task or putting them up! :) I've featured a couple of Christmas light photos in my blog recently as well. Great minds...

  16. Lovely! Welcome back Michael or "Me shell" (phonetically)....;) How's was Italy? You are such a "lucky duck"!

  17. Michael, you were in Italy? Any suggestions for lodging in Rome and Florence?

    Holiday greetings to all.

  18. City blog is driving me crazy!!! It keeps freezing up and "not responding." So I'm back to using your blog Eric to visit all the others.

Michael, I forgot to ask, do the French call you (phonetically) "Mik ul" as we do in the states, or "mee shell"?

It's going to be almost 70 degrees today!!! Can you believe it? That's 21 C (I had to look up the conversion ;) )

  19. Yes, we all wanted to know that, Susan, sitting here in the driving rain, wind bashing against our windows and a forecast of frost for the morning... lol.

  20. Wow, how nice to have people wondering...

I was in Torino for 2 days only, and no sightseeing. The only sites I saw were the food, which I can happily report *burp* was absolultely *burp* delicious *loud burp*. If there's only reason to go, that's a good reason!

Susan, here they tend to call me Mick-eye-el. It comes from the French version spelled Mickäel.

  21. Mickeyel, you know we all miss you when you're gone! I love Italian food, it's my favorite!

I read this in the NYT and wondered if either of you two Parisians are planning to see it: Candide, recently opened in Paree?

  22. So are you going to get around to all our blogs now Michael, since we've all been pining for you? lol!

  23. GG, I think you're right... I was not sure. thank you.

Susan, I know the portal is slow, we're experiencing unexpected hosting problems. Should be fixed soon.

Haxo, funny you mentionned the Fumoir because that is exactly where I had my meeting!

  24. So Eric, enough evasion: where's the scooter? (you thought i'd forgotten, didn't you!)

  25. MICHAEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL! You're baaaaaaaaaaaaack...oh to just be able to say, "I'll be in Italy for a few days!" NO FAIR! I want to say that...OK PEOPLE! I'll be in the UK for awhile...visiting Lynn and all my British Blog Buddies (BBB!) LOL! Ahhhhhhhhhh...isn't this just something? The way this big family carries on? We just HAVE to all get together for a BLOG CONVENTION sometime! The we could STAND it?!? ;-) Shall we shoot for 2010!!! We all could surely save up enough to cover our travel expenses...and STOP CALLING ME SHIRLEY! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lynn, I'll do my best to make the world tour, but no promises right now. I hardly have time to turn on my home computer right now to check my email... I'll try.

Ame, I think a convention in 2010 is too far away. Let's do it sooner!

  27. Wow! That's some major "bling" covering that already golden facade. I love the way it cascades over the edge and down like sheets of water. Really fun,
    -Kim

  28. Absolutely Michael, earlier than that! I got all excited then Ame when you said you'd be in UK, then i realised it was virtual!
Wouldn't it be great to get together though, all of us, sometime? Let's think it through seriously.
Hope you can 'visit' uk then Michael next time you turn on that pc!

  30. Eric, I also posted photos of Christmas lights in Antigua Guatemala the 16th and 17th, but my results leave much to be desired. I really like how your lights look.

  32. phone call for free from a computer

Hi, great blog by the way - didn't think you'd mind me posting this anonymously - as you do allow anonymous posts ;-).

Anyone tried this Skype program yet for free telephone calls over the internet? A guy at work uses it all the time and because he signed all his friends and relatives up he saves a fortune on his calls. Might be worth a go.

    Good luck with the blog
