The woman thinker

I found this statue in the Louvre gardens (or is it still the Tuilerie gardens?), not very far from the pyramid. There is not much to be said about it except that it's absolutely lovely. I don't know who made it and I could not find the info anywhere. If any of you do, please let me know. Anyway, let me wish you a peaceful weekend, mine will be busy working so I should be on my computer a lot!

  1. Oh so that means you can pop in to say hello then! lol.
Beautiful statue. Good to see a curvy figure too, not stick thin. She looks serene and pensive. Lovely piece of art. Good weekend too dear Eric.

  6. An artist named Jean Terzieff created a piece that is in Jardin du Luxembourg near the Medici fountain "La Femme aux Pommes". Oh, you pictured it in July 2006. I wonder if the same artist created this one in the Tuileries as well: hey! It's by Aristide Maillol, done in 1905. Here you go, let's see if this works: http://www.insecula.com/oeuvre/O0020027.html

  8. A great pick Eric, I'll certainly look for this statue in the Louvre gardens.

  10. Je peux me tromper mais ce serait pas un Mayol, par hazard? Y'en avait plein des statues de lui, l'annee derniere, j'en ai plein l'ordi. Elles sont superbes!

  11. Euh, pardon, un Maillol (pas Mayol!) Si, si, d'ailleurs le voila ici:

  13. Great statue! I wonder if it depicts a famous figure. I like the way she is sitting... it's sad yet peaceful.

  15. D'après son style, cette statue m'a tout l'air d'être du Maillol (d'ailleurs j'encourage les visites au Musée Maillol de Paris)... très très beau, merci pour cette photo magnifique !

  16. Tis lovely. Sad yet peaceful; something I can identify with.

I'm sure Michael's probably been working. He does that a lot. We do miss you so, Michael!

  17. C'est magnifique Eric. Remarkably, we do think, despite Merlin saying that we don't do it very often! Good to have you back. Bon Weekend.

  18. I am still trying to put the picture of missing UK little girl Madeleine's face into the minds of many, Eric, if your readers would pop over to Cheltenham to have a look i'd be grateful. You never know she could be in your road or mine by now. We can all look! Thanks.

  20. Bravo pour cette magnifique photo.
Il s'agit bien d'une sculpture de Maillol

  21. Dear Eric, Thank you so much for all your photos. Everytime I visit Paris I spend hours communing with the Maillol ladies while wandering thru' the Tuileries and visiting with their sisters in the Musee Maillol. They are magical spaces. In the U.S., tomorrow (Sunday) is Mother's day. I see your photo as a tribute to the mother in all of us. Thank you.

  22. Just looking at the hair style and the structure/texture of the limbs, the work is most likely by Aristide Maillol - probably in the first decade of the 1900s?

  23. Oh it's mother's day in the US tomorrow? I did not know. Here, "la fête des mères" it's on June 3.

Anyway thank you VERY much for finding out about the author of this wonderful sculpture - I could have guessed mind you.

Time for me to take a little break from my work. How about a little 24 episode?!

  24. I have never seen that Eric! You are a fan? Tell me! Are you having a good weekend? You deserve it. Hey where's Clo recently? He and Michael have absconded.

  25. Neat picture. I took a picture of that statue as I was passing by, too. I guess it has a universal appeal :)

  26. Baroness. I have not fled anywhere. I was off for the last few days, my computer cable is not working and must be repaired, I have been training my replacement because Tuesday is my last day,but I thought about PDP and Cheltenham quite often.

Eric Love the picture. Take good care of Baroness until mu cable is repaired.

  27. Oooh, big word lynn. Good job!

Eric, you and my dad should get together to discuss 24. He wont stop jabbering about it to me and I'm totally not caught up on it. I've only got through part of season 1!

Perhaps Michael is on a long romantic holiday and that's why he hasn't checked in. Usually when he's away on business he checks in every day or so. Being "busy" would definately keep me gone for more then a few days!

  28. What a beautiful photo, Eric! The last time I was in Paris, I spent a half-day in the Tuileries planted in front of the round ornamental fountain with a stack of postcards, an awesome book, my journal, and of course my camera to snap anything or anyone interesting who happened by - pure bliss pour moi!

I miss Michael's commentary, too - it's like a piece of the puzzle is missing!

  29. Stunningly beautiful, a perfect image of tranquility. If only I could be sitting in that space at this moment..Ahhh...Paris!!

  30. Yes Lynn I'm a bug fan of 24. Soosha how on earth can someone not be TOTALLY addicted to 24?!

Yes I told you my WE is pretty busy (I'm late at work...) but I took this Saturday evening off.

Started with a couple of 24 episodes, then had dinner with friends and we all eneded up watching the EUROSONG contest (yes, it's the kitschest thing to do on a Saturday evening...).

I am truly ashamed of the French band BTW!!

  31. If you want to know why I am ashamed of the French band, check this!

  32. Oh Eric your comments are funny! I'm glad you're having a good time whenever you can take a break from work. It doesn't matter if we're in a big party or at home watching our favourite tv show. If you're in the right mood, everything is fine!

Oh my brother is completely ADDICTED to 24, just like you! Just today he told me he was going to catch up with the last episodes that he missed over the past weeks!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ooooh i must try 24! I don't see it on anywhere here though. I don't have Sky you see. I'll ask my son; he'll know where to find it... lol.

So glad you had a good time Eric. Had a peek at the French band Eeeuuuww but EEEEUUUUUWWWW! at the ENGLISH one! My God, how embarrassing were they?! I didn't actually see the contest (i was out at the pub with friends - no, just fruit juices!) so i don't know how they performed, but i'd have been watching through my fingers anyway (just how dated WAS that UK dance?) I don't even know who won.
Wish i'd been there in your sitting room laughing with you Eric!

  34. I've been reading some photography books and magazines and this photo perfectly illustrates one of the things the books said to do -- using trees to frame the photo.

Very nicely done. The stillness and calmness of the photo is so relaxing.

  35. Love this statue! I have a pic of my 2 kids in front of it. Aaaaah....I miss Paris! Great blog.

  36. That is a lovely photo. I was going to sya it was by Maillol, but many others have already identified it. I love this website.
