Anti Graffiti Humor

I love that kind of humor! This poster says "I would rather have a blank wall than this crappy poster!" which is totally absurd, of course. I found it, at the very end of Le Marais, in a small passage called  le Passage du Pont au biches (deer bridge passage) where, believe me, it's been a very long time since the last deer went through it!

  1. Ahhhhhhhhhh, crappy huh? That is so funny! That is not what I thought people were saying when they stepped in stuff on the sidewalks of Paris!!! Here I thought it was a bit of a stronger word... love the photo, though!

    That is funny!

  5. Does anyone know, is this "deer bridge passage" near woods or presently a parc? If so, maybe that is where the deer went or came from.

I know during WWII hungry citizens hunted in the parcs for food. I have been told that they hunted rabbit and squab (a young domestic pigeon). Maybe that is where the deer went. Just guessing.

  6. It reminds me of "This Is Not A Pipe" by Magritte because the piece makes fun of itself.

  7. I love it! Hm, yes, I thought "merde" was a stronger word, too...

I also like that you took the photo so the poster's straight, which puts the windows at an angle.

  8. Puts a bit of a twist on the whole tabula rasa thang! This poor wall could use more "nurturing"!

It is. Eric is just being polite.

translation would be "shitty poster" but crappy is in the ballpark.

  10. As to the "artist" hmm, I don't know... seems like something a teenager would say.

I'm gonna be rolling my eyes if this "art" ever makes it to the Grand Palais some day. ;)

  12. @Lily Hydrangea "I like the rainbow sticker above it too." There are probably a lot of rainbows in Le Marais.

I did a search on the internet to find out where the deer came from/to regarding this passage; and nothing came up. At times like this, it's always great to talk to one of the grande dames of Paris who have been living in the arrondissement their whole life. They are like walking history books. That is how I found out that they use to hunt in a nearby parc when people were starving. A grande dame told me. I use to talk with her for hours.

Funny story: we, women, were talking about sexy male movie stars and our favorites. I turned to the grande dame and asked her who her favorite was, and she said, "Rudolph Valentino". I burst out laughing. And then I realized (to my embarrassment) that she was serious; I had forgotten just how old she really was. She was born in the year 1900. Wow.

  16. This is like one of those novelty T shirts that says "How do you keep an idiot busy for hours? Turn over to find out..."

Not exactly art, but good for a chuckle...

  17. The only joke I found in the dictionary (so far) was under “Irish bull.” The example: “It was hereditary in his family to have no children.”

  19. Lois, as you're collecting them, how about 'I always go to other peoples' funerals otherwise they might not come to mine'?

Re my earlier comment(s), I was hoping that someone might say I must have a double, and of course I would reply, 'Thanks, mine's a........'

  20. Hi Drummond, you are hilarious.
This picture invited me not to say a word today ... but I'm glad I've failed ;)
Eric, how is your second week? I'm so jealous. It was raining today and I'm already looking forward to next week-end.
I do hope everything is okay for you and that you are enjoying your time. Thank you for your funny post today while you are away. I hope you won't think my comment is a crappy one, though ;)

  21. Eric, as you know my French leaves a lot to be desired, but MERDE? I know better and use it often. Often when I step in it in Paris and ......other times! :)

  22. Funny! (Are there still wild deer in Paris?) We have trouble with deer in our small town, they run through the streets on rare occasions and I have almost hit one in town before. There is an old saying here that during deer hunting season we hope the hunters get the one with our name on it!
