Touching graffiti

I don't know about you, but I NEVER see anyone posting graffiti on walls. Who the hell are these people, and when do they go out to write their stuff! These are the questions I once again asked myself when I saw this graffiti a few days ago in rue de Richelieu. Anyway, part of me thinks it's really silly to dirty a wall like this and part of me couldn't help smiling when I saw it, thinking of what caused the person to claim such an ownership! BTW, you see the little man in the mirror? Well guess who this is LOL

  1. I think someone's just so in love with that boy . . . that they can't help telling everyone. Hey, I appreciate the sentiment (as do you apparently). I agree that it's kinda sweet. Now I hope it's not some damn ad campaign!

  2. LOOOL Eric!!! I'm pretty sure I know who is this, I mean both the boy and the little man ;))
    Really a cool shot!
    Lovely graffiti.

  3. Looks like someone had a little too much of Brandy. Could it have been Monica?

  4. So, with this framing, clearly the writer got it wrong, because, it should say.....the boy is ours!! Yes, its a mini Eric Tenin, who daily gives us his tour! This is a great ET postcard - wish we were there. Merci, Eric!!!

Oh, and I think the people who write graffiti all come out at the same time baby pigeons come out. Anyone ever seen one? Nope, me niether!

  5. Maybe the man in the mirror could tell us when the graffiti 'artists' come out to play, he he.

  7. Dude, you seriously look like someone in a sci-fi flick or graphic novel. . .by your bike with your helmet on! So, maybe our knight in shiny dark armor?
I notice the painter tested the can on the pavement, with over spray on the wall, too. I've come across painters in action only twice. They do like anonymity (one asked me to take down some Flickr shots of him working). Now I've got that Michael Jackson/Paul McCartney song in my head. . .

  8. Cool shot (especially the spaceman helmet!).
Do you find a lot of the graffiti you see in Paris to be in English?...I wish they would do graffiti around here in French! Ha.

  9. "the man in the mirror..." thanks Eric...like KIM I now have that song in my head also. However, it is a great song! ;-)

  12. Mindless graffiti - squiggles and a mess - I hate. It's plain vandalism as we see in a square in the beautiful old town of Menton. Drawings, art, I love. This is somewhere between the two and it made me smile. So yes I like it.

The mirror (and you) and the towing sign all add to the story.

  13. Tall Guy, I thought of the Brandy song too.

And yes, I find it strange that someone is tagging in Paris in English...

I am with Jilly, mindless graffiti I hate and art I love. This I am not sure about, but I think its not so bad.

When we visit some relatives in Arkansas we drive through Shreveport Louisiana, and there is a lovely mural fully covering the side of one building and spreading onto another, of some Edwardian era people in their finery and some rose petals. It is not graffiti, I guess, because the building goes up several stories and it covers the whole side of one wall, so it must be commissioned, but nevertheless, I really enjoy it, and it is possibly the most memorable thing we pass north of Houston.

  16. I usually dislike graffiti, but this is so sweet! And the self-portrait, Eric! You ARE our knight in dark armor, aren't you? :) Thank you for your dedication to us--we love it!

Oh, I dreamed I was in Paris last night and bought a lovely periwinkle blue scarf. Then I was in a fender-bender. Guess I can't have the wonderful without the not-so-wonderful, even in my dreams. lol

  17. I am in Jilly's camp on this one. It's a bit too early in the morning for a full blown rant about urban litter from moi, so I'll just add it is a sweet thought! I'll be elbowing you out of the way for good photo ops in the streets of Paris in just two days!!! Paris won't be the same. :)

  18. I saw graffiti all over Paris this spring on my trip. Much worse than last year. It makes me feel violated. Very little street art and much much vandalism. It was almost a daily occurrence at my apt. in the Marais. It makes me sad. But cool photo, Eric. -- Elizabeth

  19. I would never have paid any big attention to graffiti myself if had not been initiated by Pdp. And that's only an example of what I can learn with this blog every day.
I love graffiti for that! :). My personal graffiti could be something like that : "the one who knows my defauts but still loves me is mine".

  20. My favorite graffiti is when they write their moniker on garbage cans and sewer pipes. Perfect!

  21. Can anyone explain me why these anonymous "spams" are coming sometimes in this website. Two of them today about drugs on line sales while I was thinking to myself recently, glad they don't show up anymore... :(
Not bad anonymous. Mine would be much more like "The one who would like my defaults and would still love me, will be mine...". I know what I'm talking about! Lol

  22. I feel the same way about this that you do, Eric--somewhere between amused and annoyed. But this one is charming.

  23. Funny that the artist wrote in English! I love this. If it were a poster, I'd plaster it over my husband's side of the bed!! Thanks, E!
