Inside Le Grand Colbert

If you're looking for a good, typical restaurant in Paris, I suggest you pay a visit to Le Grand Colbert; a typical brasserie that first opened in 1900 (during La Belle Epoque times). I went there last Sunday for lunch with friends and really enjoyed myself. Not only is the food excellent, but more than that, the decor is really worth the journey... (not to mention that after your meal you can wander in the neighborhood which is also worth the look!). Price-wise, let's say it's affordable but not cheap... Last time I mentioned Le Grand Colbert (2005) they did not have a website, but now, they do!

  4. It amazes me how synchonous we can be sometimes Eric. Just after you printed that pic of Sacré Coeur that I had also taken and has been my screen saver for ages, you now post this, which is strangely similar to my latest Paris Photo Quiz!

If any of your wonderful readers fancy winning some of my photo bookmarks, I invite them to leave a comment on the quiz, even if it's just to say 'Hi', pretending they haven't just come directly from the Great Eric's blog, and I'll send you all a wonderful photo bookmark or two to say thanks.

Hey, I'll even send Eric a few too, even though no doubt he'll know all the answers already - is that ok Eric?! ;-)

  5. May I have the steak tartare and pommes dauphinoise, s'il te plait? (I'm guessing these items are on the menu—have never eaten here, but would love to one of these days).

  6. Hey Eric, it's good to pamper yourself, and eating lunch at an upper scale Parisian restaurant 'ain't' a bad way to do it. :-) This photo transports me there...just wish I was. ;-) Cheers!

I LOVE those typcial Parisian restos, bistrots.... we went to one on Sunday with our English guests and they could hardly eat, so much they had to look around and marvel at the authenticy of the whole place (no, it wasn't LGC... but it was very nice too and the food was brilliant, and they were friendly and all was well)

  19. Oh, I wanted to go there for my birthday lunch last week and then we thought it might be a little "posh". Will have to try it out some other time. I've heard by friends that it's amazing inside! Another typical Parisian place I need to try is Bofinger. Have you been?

  22. I made a special trip to Le Grand Colbert after the movie, Something's Gotta Give, and was seated next to two couples from Germany who were there for the same reason. The maitre d' was most courteous showing us his book with photos taken during the filming.
