Champs Elysées
I had lunch with a friend near the Champs Elysées yesterday (Tuesday) and before I went back to work I walked a little bit on the avenue. I saw this lady with this purple umbrella and thought immediately it would make a very Parisian photo (even though I believe the young lady might be Japanese - she was waiting in front of Louis Vuitton!). I was not too happy about the guy walking by on her left hand side, so in the end I cheated a little bit by turning the photo black and white, except for her!

I love that effect. Is that something I can achieve in photoshop?
ReplyDeleteand the effect worked beautifully Eric.
ReplyDeleteJe l'adore! Violet et rouge, two of my favorite colors... great photo, Eric!
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
PURPLE UMBRELLA!!!
ReplyDeleteRED BAG!!!
AWESOME!!!
My guess is that even if she's not Japanese, she is foreign. I learned while I was there that there's an unwritten rule that Parisians don't use umbrellas unless it is a total downpour. You see that almost no one else has one out. I felt like a wimpy 'Merican every time I put mine up and finally got used to steeling my eyes and marching forward just to show them I could do it, too!!
ReplyDeleteEric, love the umbrella. Brings back memories. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe pic is cool in spite of the guy.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great way to handle the attention the guy and his puffy coat would take away from your subject. She looks super! And, who was holding your umbrella for you while you shot this for us? :-)

Very funny, Eric! But surely someone besides the Asians are spending money in Europe (although when I was In Venice in November I never saw anyone in a gondola who wasn't)! Love what you've done with this image.
ReplyDeleteTrust me Carrie, we'll all have them out today on this rainy Wednesday. Although mine will be a standard black one Eric...not like this pretty pic.
ReplyDeleteYeah...the Michelin Man is a bit in the way. The umbrella is a lovely shade of lavender however, even though like Michael I carry the more traditional Black parapluie!
ReplyDelete@Michael - Sorry to hear its so rainy, but thanks for making me feel like I'm not such a wimp - I think I got spoiled by living here in SoCal, where a 10% chance of rain literally puts all the forecasters into "stormwatch" mode!
ReplyDeleteNice shot!
ReplyDeleteThere is something about the colour purple, that inspires with energetic conservatism the senses in me ....or was it the coffee this morning?....
ReplyDeleteA moment in the fashion life of that woman. Great contrast and colour focus.

Can I ask how you knew she was Japanese from waiting outside LV? :) (Apart from being Japanese-looking)
ReplyDeleteI'm Norwegian and love LV! Do the French not?
Great choise and great shot, Eric.
ReplyDeleteLove the B&W with a splash of colour.
BTW have you been thinking about a picnic date, Eric ??? I know I'm nagging you....nag...nag...
ReplyDeletethat purple umbrella just jumps right out at me!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Louis Vuitton = those tourists! :)

The colour POPS so!!! It looks quite delicious. I can taste the grape and cherry flavours!!!
ReplyDeleteI was worried.Somehow,I may be off the PDP list ( was it something I said (: ). I was worried about our intrepid journalist. Eric, I'm glad that you're still clicking. I'll see for tomorrow. If necessary I will resubscribe.
ReplyDeleteas always,
Merci beaucoup
Cyndi
My eyes at first tricked me and I thought the b&w was a snow scene. It is a beautiful umbrella, a cool image, interesting angle and treatment. I sure like how you "cheat"!
ReplyDeleteUmbrellas are one thing I do have fun with. I have some interesting and rather unique (read goofy) prints, so I can spot my umbrella anywhere ;)
ReplyDeleteMy latest addition: a giant rainbow umbrella, just because.
I know what you mean, though. People are so rude, step right in front of you when you're trying to frame a shot... pffff Y'a des coups de parapluie qui se perdent! ;)
ReplyDeleteI would have waited until he was long gone.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great edit. Love the deep colours against the black. Good job!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous "Can I ask how you knew she was Japanese from waiting outside LV? :) (Apart from being Japanese-looking)" > Well in fact it went very fast, but I pretty sure I saw her face. The thing is, anyway, that this Louis Vuitton shop has a lot of Japanese customers. It does not mean we don't like LV products, it's only that apparently the Japanese LOVE it!
ReplyDelete@Bettina. Picnic. Yes I must think of it...
@Starman. I did wait but the lady went away too...
Eric, lovely shot. (Purple is my favorite color!) I too am a wimp and use my umbrella whenever I feel anything wet falling from the sky. But this picture is really cool. Love the editing work!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. Visiting Paris and walking about on the Champs Elysees, you can always tell the vast difference between the locals and the tourists. The people who work in the area are dressed so fashionably!
ReplyDeleteVery smartly done;) Black and white colour with coloured bag and umbrella. Perfect effect!
ReplyDeleteExcellent post, thanks for collating the information. I have been searching google and yahoo for information related to this and it led me to your blog! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat image Eric I think you made the right decision to convert the image to B&W and leave the girl color. Love it.
