When you think of Paris, you don’t necessarily think of a harbor city, do you? And though it is! For even though the closest sea (la Manche/the English Channel) is at least 150 miles away, there no less than 19 ports within the Paris area for private yachts and goods delivery. Here is one of the rings that allow boats to dock; it’s located at the Bassin de la Villette where they have a little yachting area. You can rent a spot for about 2 500 € a year if you have a small boat and … if you find room ;-)

ReplyDeleteLe serpent noir de la Seine is rare, venomous asp found in sand and often transported accidentally in train cars and trucks. It was unknown by scientists until 2003 after the Paris Plage event made famous by a blogger. After the initial year of the summer event, the odd, dark grey serpents were spotted along the Seine. The snakes use camouflage (a French word) to conceal themselves in plain view, often being mistaken for mooring rings along concrete walls. They are only dangerous when seen from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, when they create severe pangs of longing for Paris.
ReplyDeleteThe ex-husband of a friend suggested that I should join him in buying a houseboat that we could moor in Paris. On the one hand, une idée très interessante. On the other hand, beaucoup trop compliqué!

ReplyDeleteMr PHX and I have been in PHX!! for 2 months, then I dump him at my parents in MIA for a bit then we will be back in Paris for a year starting in November.(the Paris apt was rented out for the 5 summer months).
