French Public Services

Those of you who follow me on Facebook may have seen one of my yesterday updates in which I was "expressing my discontent" regarding La Poste, the French postal service. On the way out I came across this mailbox and I could not help thinking: this is a provocation LOL! To be fair, French public services (have a look at this British site for more, that is all I could find in English) are not that bad, on the whole, they are just like French service in general ;-)

  2. It even has a beauty mark on the left hand side.
We moved back into our Paris apartment this month after a 5 month hiatus but Mr PHX had to wait till I got back to CDG with our mailbox key.
Do not romanticize.....it was full of junk mail, just like in the US!

  3. I've only had the pleasure of two, one-week vacations in Paris, but I have to say, the Poste staff were wonderfully patient, kind, and efficient when I had boxes of Paris mementoes to mail home!

  4. In contrast to your 'discontent', this mailbox looks very 'content', verging on 'smug'. You must have been tempted to give it a good kicking, although I am sure that such a thought would never cross your mind.;-)

PHX, stop torturing us with all that "We moved back into our Paris apartment" stuff.
    Jealous? Moi?

  5. I never had a problem with the PTT—maybe I was just lucky. And PHX, I'll bet you're actually thrilled just to have a Paris mailbox, no matter what comes out of it!

  6. @PHX... And something tells me I'm going to see you very soon...

@Drummond "You must have been tempted to give it a good kicking, although I am sure that such a thought would never cross your mind.;-)" I have believe me...

@Terry " but I have to say, the Poste staff were wonderfully patient" Yes, in fact, most of the time it goes well. Only they have to cope with lots of new stuff and it's not easy.

@Alexa "I never had a problem with the PTT" The mail delivery is pretty decent here I must say (mind you nowadays you mostly receive e-mails!

  7. With all the e-mails, we lose the pleasure of a hand written letter or postcard from someone we care for. I confess that I have numerous post cards from places in the world from travelers and I rarely sent any myself.

  8. The French Poste did a swell job in getting my French goodies back to the US after my October visit to Paris. I'm still waiting, however, for the postcard I mailed to myself ... just to prove that I had been there. After almost a month it hasn't arrived. Do you think it could have anything to do with the card being a picture of the lovely "Olympia" on display at the Musee d'Orsay (sans clothes)? :-) Postman may have kept it for himself.
