Sales time...

I must not stay up too late tonight for tomorrow is the first day of Les soldes (the sales) and stores will open earlier than usual! The sales are highly government regulated in France and they can only take place during certain periods (Winter, Summer and 2 other floating periods). It is compulsory to clear off what in the store (it is prohibited to  replenish your inventory less than 30 days before the start of the sales) and the old and new prices must be clearly displayed on each tag. It's also the only periods where selling at a loss is allowed.

  1. The streets were eerily quiet this evening as the stores closed earlier in anticipation of tomorrow. Some stores started the sales today, as one lady gave me 10% off a new bag. I hope I can get some shopping in before I leave CDG at 3pm tomorrow. You are right, Eric, what am I doing up at midnight?

  2. I noticed the hearts right away in the picture before reading what Eric wrote and automatically thought of Valentines Day!

Here in Connecticut the store shelves had Valentines Day stuff out for sale before Christmas Day.

    enjoy looking for good sales.

  3. Apparently, in Spain, where my partner is from, they started their sales at -70% a couple of days ago to catch the all important 6th January event (more presents offered than at Christmas, I'm told)... tough times!

But a complicated law, almost over regulated.
    Happy 2013 Mr. Tenin !

  6. Unfortunately, sales here in the US are so commonplace that no one even thinks about the fact that there are countries who regulate how many sales they have in a year. It sort of takes the fun out of bargain shopping when you can go at any given time and find one. :)
