Joan of Arc at Saint Augustin

There are three statues of Joan of Arc in Paris - I generally show the one by the Louvre, at the entrance of rue de l'Amiral Coligny (the street that leads to the PDP picnic area!) but for once, let me show you another magnificent one. It's located Place Saint Augustin (after the Saint Augustin church that you can see in the background) and was made by sculptor Paul Dubois, and was posted there in 1896. The 3rd statue is located at Boulevard Saint Marcel; I'll show it to you the next time I go there...

  2. Great shot of Joan of Arc. She, Joan of Arc, was from the same region in France as my ancestors. There is also a statue of her inside Notre Dame http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Joan_of_Arc-Notre_Dame.jpg

We have a statue of her here in San Francisco http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jeanne_d%27Arc_Joan_of_Arc_at_San_Francisco%27s_Palace_of_the_Legion_of_Honor_and_crepuscular_rays.jpg

  3. Pardonez moi, mon ami, mai Jean d'Arc n'est pas a rue de l'Amiral Coligny. Elle est a Place des Pyramides. (In bad French.)

(Yes, I was wrong the other day about the location: I confused the Ritz with the Hilton)

I did not know there was another in front of St. Augustine. We sat there for a couple hours with a postcard of our (Minneapolis') painting of Place St. Augusting by Vuillard, trying to figure out just what changed.

    I love it. Thanks again.

  4. I saw a statue of Joan of Arc as a young girl in a dress just receiving her vision. It was in front of a church as I was heading to the American Hospital and I can't remember the name.

  5. PS-since you've changed your site, it takes forever to open. I think it's the video links, such as vimeo.

  6. Quelle Jeanne d'Arc conquérante !
C'est vrai comme le souligne Linda que le chargement prend beaucoup de temps surtout depuis un telephone mobile... une bonne dose d'abnegation me concernant ;-) Lol

  7. Brave Jeanne d'Arc probably deserves as many statues in her honor as they can find places to put them. Love the layers i this photo, Eric!

  9. What a hero she was. She deserves every statue that they make of her! And this one is powerful enough for anyone, I think.

  10. I love Jean d'Arc story. I guess my favourite statu of her is the one
inside Notre Dame. Although the golden one at Rue de Pyramid
(well observed Jeff mon ami) is sooooo pretty!

  11. As I often do, I went to Google maps, street view, to compare your photo with that view and she looks much larger in your photo. You can hardly see her in the street view. Well done, Eric.

  12. Visiting Joan was part of my after-dinner ritual the last time I was in Paris. I would indulge in homemade foie gras at La Salle a la Menage in the Hotel Raphael, and then, to justify it, take a long, winding walk over to the Église Saint-Augustin.

  13. Beautiful picture. Thanks for posting. I never get tired of seeing the statues dedicated to St. Joan.
