Mona Bismarck foundation

Amazing! After so many years in Paris, there are still buildings that I have passed by a thousand times without knowing what was to be found in them! In this particular case, I'm talking about the Mona Bismarck foundation, a magnificent building located at avenue de New York, where I took this photograph today. Guess what it's made of? Buttons! And they have many more, as, precisely, they are having a buttons exhibit until August 14th. Quite fascinating. BTW the artist of this "painting" is Lisa Kokin. On a - very - different note, I would like to ask you for a favor... Lynn (from the UK, that you all know if you're a regular visitor to PDP) is at the verge of winning a free trip to Paris. But she needs many more votes. Can you please just take 5 seconds and click here then on "Vote for this tip"? Thanks for her.

  1. I love this photo, and the idea of a button exhibit. I bet it is fascinating. I saw one in Paris once about wallpaper, of all things, and it was great. Thank you for the information on this Foundation. It looks like a must-see for the next trip.

  4. I'm always intrigued about how artists manage shading when using mediums other then paint or pencil.

  8. Reminds me of Sisley. I never would have imagined buttons!
I've voted for you Lynn. By the way, if ever you don't win the trip, you can still come to Paris this month. It's not free--but not too far from it. That's what Paris Sharing is about!

  11. Great post and photo Eric.
I'll read the links later but at least I have voted for Lynn. First, because you asked it for a favor and I would do it at anytime for you (;-) and second, because Lynn's tip is great.

Well, don't know if it will be enough to win a "fantastic shopping weekend for two in Paris, travelling first class by Eurostar, £500 to spend". But it was worth trying and having the fun!
Go for Lynn!! Vote for Lynn!

  13. Yay for buttons! I actually just glanced at the picture and knew immediately that they were buttons; maybe I've got buttons on the brain lately! But I've also been making buttons as well as beads for the last few months, and this sculpture is so creative and innovative. I love it!

Go Lynn! I've already voted and passed it on through Facebook. Please, please help her out!! :)

  17. It's very clever but I prefer the close up view.

Tonton, I have also done my PDP duty and voted for Lynn on every PC that I have access to. I feel so bad, but sometimes bad feels good.
