Closed for vacation

Just kidding! You know that PDP never closes right?! So even though I'm going to be away for 2 weeks, it does not mean there won't be a daily photo here. So please, do not change your habits and keep dropping your nice comments around here, they're my fuel. Let me give you all a huge hug from Paris (OK, that's 1,287 hugs, based on my yesterday's stats, maybe not such a good idea LOL). BTW, since you asked, I'm going to... Sarasota, Florida away from the cold and the rain.

  1. Oh! You're going to make Michael homesick.
This is a great photo to illustrate your going away but i'm so glad you will not be totally absent. You must try to comment now and again and maybe pop in to one of us (me) as a surprise from Florida. Bon voyage, amuse-toi bien et prends soin (c'est correct ca?) x

  2. Lynn: "take care" doesn't translate well in French. Try "take care of yourself" instead, "prends soin de toi" but it's not quite the same in my opinion.

Nice picture and so "France in July-August!" Have fun in Florida and stay away from the alligators!

  3. Ah yes! de toi...i'd forgotten that, thanks, Tomate.. it's been such a long time.

  4. Have a great time in Florida, Eric! You should come to sunny Southern California some time - not humid at all like in Florida. I would love to take you out on the town!

  5. Yep, California is the land of the perfect weather. Florida in Aug will be quite an experience. Humid, hot, ugh. Have fun anyway!

  6. Florida in August? Mon Dieu! Hot! Hot! Hot!

Eat some alligator while you're there. It tastes like chicken...

  7. Saw lots of these signs in Paris this month, including a restaurant in the corner of my hotel that I so wanted to try, Le Petit Zinc.
However, Laduree - just a few steps from my HQ - was open all the time!

Have a fantastic time in Florida Eric, don't forget the sun lotion!

  8. Ah! Le Petit Zinc. Maintent je suis ou est votre hotel, Mme. Monica. Great location. I ate at Le Petit Zinc on my birthday two years ago. (Frankly, I was disappointed by the food, and the service was bad, not just French. It is a beautiful art nouveau restaurant, though.

Florida will be tropical, but Sarasota is on the Gulf coast, so you'll have a nice time. And, you probably beat hurricane season.

  9. yes, you're leaving the cold rain for the hot rain of Florida. I hopw your vacation is spectacular - perhaps you can find room to post a few vacation photos as well?

  10. Oh my gosh - I hope Eric isn't disappointed after all of these comments! He'll be expecting the worse when in fact, as Jeff said, Sarasota is on the west coast where the sunsets are fab, the fish is to die for, and unlike California, you can at least swim in the Gulf. There's always the pool to cool off in Eric...pay no attention to the (blog)land of the jealous! ;-)

  11. Hey Eric, I've been away from blogging awhile so am getting caught up. Always enjoyable to read the posts. I echo others and wish you a splendid trip to Gatorland! May the hurricanes leave you alone...I'm alluding to the drinks, too. :0)

  12. So, frustrated by the lack of enthusiasm by your readers, I feel obligated to defend and support your holiday plans! I'm not biased at all!

While you are there, here are a few suggestions:

In case you're missing culture (yes, it does exist in Florida!), check out the Ringling Mansion and Museum with a fine collection of Titian, Veronese, Rubens, Hals, and Velazquez on display. Of course the view from the terrace of the mansion overlooking the bay is fantastic!

You can also catch a symphony concert or opera at the Van Wezel Concert Hall. Another perfect setting along Sarasota Bay.

And why not a jazz concert by our friend Mike Markaverich, who jams it up at Caragiulos restaurant every Thursday & Friday night.

Not far from where you'll be, in Fort Myers, is also the Edison & Ford Winter Estates - perfect for a gadget geek like you! Or learn the "Sanibel Stoop" while search for shells along Sanibel Island.

Of course, you can just chill out along Siesta Key - voted over and over again, "America's best beach".

So, it's a little humid in August, but there are few tourists and there's always that new invention called Air Conditioning. Amazingly over-abundant in the South. Just bring your sweater and they'll know you're a French visitor. I'm sure they will be happy to welcome you!

    HAVE FUN!

  13. Gosh i don't know about Eric, but you've sold it to me, Michael! I'll go for a relaxing time at Siesta Key please, with a good book on those white sands oh wow. The humidity i would hate but as you say, pop inside for a blast of air conditioning and i'd be fine.
The sweater thing intrigues me. How would you recognise me, then, Michael in Florida, a brit visitor? Here we go, this'll be fun......(rolls eyes)

  14. Have a great time in Florida, it is paradise and less crowded then the south of France at this time of the year.

  15. Have fun in my home state of FL-I'm actually a Miami girl.
Michael, I thought you were on vacation today! Will be here next Mon and Tues.
I just found out EVERYTHING except museums is closed here today, as it is Assention(?) day. Fermeture, fermeture.

  16. Luckily Sarasota is on the coast so you can spend most of your time in the water keeping cool. I've only been there in May and the humidity was bad enough. I can't imagine what it's like in August!

  17. Enjoy your time off. But oh my yes, you will be away from cold, in FL.

  18. That's right, Michael, the Gulf is nice if it's anything like the Caribbean. The Ringling collection sounds fascinating. Hey, there's always something to do if you know where, and the Homeboy makes a good list. From the weather online, it looks like you should bring an umbrella, just in case. Have fun. Oddly, the heat just broke here in Minnesota and it's pleasantly cooler today.

  19. Bienvenue en Floride, monsieur! Je suis de Fort Lauderdale (sud de Floride). Il fait tres chaud maintenant. Bon vacance.

  20. Hey Michael - of course you can swim in the ocean in Southern California! Come out some time and we'll go for a dip ;)

  21. Well...I guess everyone is entitled to a vacation!! Hee...Hee!! I just returned from mine and now I have lot's of PDP posts to catch up on! I was driving back to Boston from Maine the day that Monsieur le president Sarkozy was lunching with Mr Bush in Kennebunkport...it didn't affect the traffic..not to worry! The little thing that everyone was laughing over was when Sarkozy gave the "finger" to the photographers in New Hampshire!! That was perfect! Everyone agreed that the photographers deserved it. That lake is known for being very private...lot's of "Honey-Mooners"!

Have a great time in Sarasota Eric!! I was going to suggest the "Ringling Museum" and Siesta Key, but Michael beat me to it! If I had to pick a place in FLA to go to, it would be Sarasota..not bad! Enjoy!!!

  23. Yes phx-cdg, I am on vacation actually. I didn't know you were from Miami! What a small world. I am from Hollywood actually (yes, the original is in Florida!).

  24. Can it be that you are in the state at the same time as I? (Unfortunately, you are on the west coast and I am on the east.) Thrillsville! Have a great time. The weather is great, and at times over the past two weeks, it's been cooler here than in New York.

  25. A bit in late but not too much to wish you a wonderful trip in sunny (I hope) Florida :-)
