Paris hosts the Rugby World Cup

As you may know, this year France (OK, and Scotland too!) is hosting the 2007 Rugby World Cup. And today (Friday) is the big day: not only will the opening take place, but also the first match; France is to beat play Argentina @ 9 pm French time. Needless to say, life will stop for a couple of hours, LOL. On this special occasion, the Eiffel Tower is wearing its festive coulours (see livecam here). Everything you want to know is here.

  1. Eric! That is so very worth that long and arduous (20 minute) wait you put me through!

Another beautiful, beautiful photograph from Paris's friendlist inhabitant. Next to Amelie, of course. :)

  3. I live near enough to see huge tour eiffel, but I couldn't see the lighting. I was in my house all day. A bit weird? Yes for me. Now it's midnight and I will just go out for seeing what I've seen in the livecam, 'Bon courage pour moi'

  4. Bravo!

No matter how many times one sees it, sometimes you just can't beat a great shot of La Tour.

    This one is fantastic!

  5. What is it about the Eiffel Tower that makes you just want to stop and gaze - just perfect

  6. Eric, thank you! I've been going nuts trying to figure out why the lighting was done up so different on the tower lately. I have the G***le plug in that shows me the tower and every night I saw the grand display. Merci for the info and the great pictures! We miss Paris and can't wait to get back.

  7. My heart skipped a beat when I saw this. Yesterdays photo was divine, but this is the shot I was praying for. Your Eiffel Tower photos are always amazing as if the two of you are in sync and together you conspire to produce the best in photographer and subject. Thank you for sharing your marvelous, artistic and generous eye with us.

  8. My night photos of the Eiffel Tower are the worst. Tried several shots of it from the top of the Arc and was disappointed. This however is breathtaking. Hope you can hear the applause from the Midwest USA!

  11. When one thinks about all of the architecture around the world and how much of it becomes "dated" over time, the Eiffel Tower continues to inspire, conjure up magical thoughts, and cause so many people to look up at her beauty. One can only be grateful that those during the period who did not want her built in their "backyard" were over-ruled. Oh, if Gustave Eiffel were only alive today to see what she has become!

    Truly a beautiful shot Eric.

  12. Very nice words Michael but maybe there is only one thing more beautiful and that is the French rugby team themselves, known as the Dieux du Stade. Ooh la la!

  16. I'm not very interested in rugby but i shall say the winner of this world cup will be...... pubs of Paris!!!

You've made a beautiful shot. I was surprise to learn some time ago that you can take and sale pictures of the Eiffel Tower in the day but all night images belong to the town of Paris(in a matter of copyright for the lightings. something like that)

  17. When I lived in Paris, after awhile I could walk by Notre Dame, for example, and not be awed. But every time I saw the Eiffel Tower it would take my breath away. That's how I knew I was in Paris. I really miss that feeling.

  18. That would have looked good from the Montparnasse Tower too!

  19. who will win? who? who? :-)

    Beautiful shot!

  20. This iron and steel lady never ceases to amaze. WOW, Eric, you captured her magnificently! What would Gustave Eiffel's critics say if they could see her now.

About Rugby, I'm in a quandary here. I got introduced to Rugby in Kiwi land, so I have a soft spot for the team that sports the silver fern. Pour qui voter? Oh la la.

  21. Indeed a lovely photo, even prettier than the normal lighting, which is beautiful. I'll try to remember to check in on the webcam at night.

Good luck to the French team. (I guess head butting in rugby would be no big deal...)

  22. Well marie, those guys certainly aren't shy huh?

Oh Eric! What a fantastic shot! And of course France will completely smack Portugal down. No doubt!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Argentina, sorry. Not really sure why I was thinking Portugal. Might have seen something on the place earlier and my still sleepy mind decided to swap them though they are nowhere near one another!

  24. Speaking of beautiful photographs: Eric, did you ever connect with "Paris Set Me Free"?

  25. superbe photo de la Tour Eiffel, les couleurs lui vont très bien !

  26. Nice photo, Eric. But haven't you broken copyright law by taking a pic of the Eiffel Tower at night and posting in on your web site, which could arguably be considered a commercial site? (Don't worry, I won't forward to the authorities.)

  27. Magnifique, Eric! You are so talented. Wish I could have this for my desktop. Thank you.

  28. Ohhhhh....Mon Dieu!!!! Superbe!! What spectacular colors...and a perfect shot from a great location. If only I was walking up the rue St. Dominique towards the Champ de Mars that night!! I really could use a Paris fix right now...sighhhh!!

  29. May I suppose these lights are 'un hommage' to Brazil national day? Merci, les français!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well, happy national day, Monica, Luiz Fernandos, and everyone else from beautiful Brazil. In the Grito do Ipiranga, "By my blood, by my honor, and by God".

And to everyone else, have a wonderful weekend.

  31. Thank you all. Actually I'm glad you liked it because it was really hard to take.

Yes Luggi - and others who've mentioned copyright laws on the Eiffel Tower - I surely don't have the right to post this photo but, honestly, I don't think my blog can be considered as a commercial site...

    Anyway, too late, it's posted!

Believe me, this is not too much of a concern right know. I'm much more cross that we just lost against Argentina ;-(

  32. Loraine, thank you very much!
We are celebrating Independence Day today and it's amazing that you mentioned the Grito do Ipiranga!

Thanks a lot, that was very sweet of you!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't think it's a commercial site either, Eric. A labor of lover for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow! The Eiffel Tower looks so awesome all lit up like that! I wish I could be there right now :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sorry about the loss to Argentina last night. I'll have to find out what happens next. Does France play more matches or not?

In the meantime, be sure to see Monica's little video of the Eiffel Tower sparkling. It's really nice!

  38. J'ai loupé la Tour Eiffel à la télé ce soir là...
    Je me rattrape maintenant!! ^_^
    La photo est vraiment GENIALE.

  40. Was it a delibearte snub to say "Ok, and Scotland too!"? Wales exists dammit! Great photo though...

  41. By the way, be sure to check out Soosha's blog. She's trying to save up for a trip to Paris.
