Frozen Wheel

Come on, don't you act surprised... You knew I would show you the big Ferris wheel of the Jardin des Tuileries one of these days... ;-) Well, now is the time. Why? because I just passed by it a few minutes ago and because due to the cold the Neptune fountain is all frozen (click in the photo if you want to see better). Really nice, I'm sure you're going to love this photo as much as I enjoyed taking it (well I'm glad I had gloves on though...)

  1. OMG! That is cold! As much as I love the ferris wheel I wouldn't be able to bring myself to ride it at this time of year.

  3. I just looked at yesterday's blog.LOL, Jeff, your song! If I get the nerve, I WILL sing it to my husband who will be a passenger on my flt. on the 23rd to LHR. I can't wait to see his future seatmate's face. Too funny!

  5. Phx: you are right about this photo being about the chill. The wheel and trees look like ice sculptures.

  6. Magical!!! I would so take a ride. It has been too long.

  7. It looks like a giant ice spiderweb. I wish I could see it in person!

We have a (smaller) wheel in San Jose at this time every year. Let me tell you, it's COLD up there!

  8. Brr. The icy white light and the dark silhouettes create a chilly but beautiful scene.

  9. gorgeous photo thank you.

But no way would I ever get on the Wheel (or go up the Eiffel Tower - I don't do 'highs' as one of my French friends says!).

  10. This is fantastic!!!! It looks like the wheel is actually covered in snow! And the frozen fountain, awesome!

I can only imagine how cold it is, and I can't believe anyone would have a ride there in this weather.
Early this morning at work I had a call from Paris and was told it was 1ºC degree. All I heard was "I wish I was in hot Rio!"

  12. Coooool photo!!

Just to encourage those who said -brrr, too cold to ride the wheel - the carriages are all enclosed and you look out the windows while protected from the chill! Pretty cool, I mean warm, non?!

  13. I'm not at all surprised, Eric—just completely delighted! What a magical image.
And I'd like to be a fly on the wall when PHX sings that song to her husband on the plane!

  14. C'est...
    C'est...
    Magnifique!

Hey, PHX: bring your laptop so your husband can listen to a CD that just might be arriving in a few days...

    Jingle jangle!
    Dig that crazy Santa Claus
    With his red suit on
    Dig that crazy Santa Claus
Man oh man he's really gone.
    Jingle jangle!
    (imagine an orange Gretsch)

  17. Petrea I came back from Paris yesterday and it ws just magical. These phtos really reflect just how lovely everything is.
Just around here we drank a vin chaud though it was not quite as icy as this.

  18. That ferris wheel is just magical at Christmas. I'm glad to see they've kept it this year as well. Gorgeous shot with the fountain all icy!

  19. Jaq, I'm jealous because you got to go, not jealous because you had to come back!

Someone asked a question here the other day about the Minneapolis connection. Did it ever get answered?

  20. @Lynn "I can't get over the frozen fountain! Your photo is all about the chill" LOL

@Suzy "We have a (smaller) wheel in San Jose at this time every year. Let me tell you, it's COLD up there!" It's cold in San Jose?! Are you kidding me?

@Monica "I can only imagine how cold it is, and I can't believe anyone would have a ride there in this weather." True. The wheel remained still for a long time (well as long as I was taking the photo) so I suppose nobody was on it.

@Alexa "And I'd like to be a fly on the wall when PHX sings that song to her husband on the plane!" Yeah me too ;-)

@Diane (DW QUILT ART) "Eric! If anyone wants to warm up, see where I am today :-)" This is so unfair!

@jaq. Sorry you had to leave us!

  21. I'm glad someone is correctly portraying Paris in the Winter...I had the incorrect notion that it would be mild, and when I moved there for a semester abroad, I almost froze. Love the pic

  22. Yes, Eric, at night it is quite cold. Not freezing, but cold. In Winter we have temps anywhere from 35-50 degrees Fahrenheit most nights. Add the breeze from the ferris wheel spinning and it's awfully chilly at the top!

  23. Petrea, I believe M. PDP was referring to the lovely climate in my environs. He was being compassionate.

Right now it is 2 F (-17 C). And a hard wind that makes if feel like -15 F (-26 C). This is what he meant by "Minneapolis cold". We start getting strange around here...

  24. Thanks Eric ,there were tears at the airport. Although I did mention to my friend the possibility of a picnic invite next spring!

  25. Eric, cool...erh...cold photo! Still, Paris has a natural charm to her even when she is frigid.
    ;-) Peace brother!

  26. Jeff, I remember in the dialogue at the beginning of the Rhoda show, which took place in Minneapolis, Rhoda mentioned that she moved there because it was cold and she figured she would "keep" better. That always cracked me up, even as a little kid.

  27. Petrea I have this goal too, I want to go to Paris one day during autumm or winter time.

But it will probably take me a few years to get used to the idea of facing all that cold. I would only do it for Paris bien sur!!!

  28. @JEff"Right now it is 2 F (-17 C). And a hard wind that makes if feel like -15 F (-26 C). This is what he meant by "Minneapolis cold". We start getting strange around here...". Yes that is what I meant by Minneapolis cold!

@Jaq ;-)) Sure, picnic there will be!
