Vitrine de noël

I did not show you any Vitrine de noël (Christmas window display) this year, so before they remove them, here is one. I took it outside Le Printemps where they have little stands for kids to climb on, so that they can see better. It's always so cute to see how fascinated the children are, up to a point that they never want to leave. It's a shame we become easily blasé when aging and that displays for adults (I mean television(!)) have to be much more eye catching than this! By the way, if you want to follow the New Year's eve events live from where you are, here is an interesting link.

  1. More reindeer games! Merci, but, I guess this is the last game until next year as you are already talking about New Year's Eve. :-s

  2. This photo looks like a Gothic Christmas, purple and black. The only thing that saves it are the off-white plushy stuffed reindeer (which are so sweet). Love the photo.

  3. Reindeer games again yes!!!
Love the two shadows. Look like they are enjoying the same scene in perfect harmony. New Year's Eve is in less than 48 hours from right now... Then I wish you the sweetest end of 2009, a year that I've had a lot of pleasure to share with you here and there.
And I do hope I still have kept my child's soul for I never feel myself as a fulltime adult ;-)

  4. Gosh that's so very pretty! I'd be right there with the kiddies, with my nose pressed right up against the glass.

I love that you took a photo with the silhouetted onlookers rather than just the display. It adds to the wonder of it all.

  5. Sorry Eric, but it's either the KKK or a guy with a condom on his head!

  9. LOLLLL Michael!

I have to say, the window display is pretty but at first glance the sight of the sillhouette looked like two ghosts staring at the window!

Silly me. It's a wonderful shot as usual!

  10. Great photo...so kids wear condoms on their heads now??? What next??

I always loved those windows at Christmas and the little walkway they would put up for the smaller children to walk on so they could see the windows...perfect.

  11. .. I like the contrast of the two hooded, sinister characters in black against the creme colored display.

    bonne nouvelle année à tous

  12. We used to drive in to Chicago to see the windows at Marshall Field's. I could let my imagination take me inside the fantasy of the display and just like the French children, I never wanted to leave.

This is lovely, Eric! I guess berets are out and condoms are in. Now we'll be seeing those at Macy's and they'll be all the rage.

  14. Yes, a bit gothic, a bit noir. Hear the "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies" bells.

(On the other topic: I wish more KKK people would wear condoms--not on their heads.)

  15. I can't see the picture, but count me in with the people who do not get the "magic of Christmas" anymore. Yeah, the decorations are cool and all, but first of all, you can see them in some stores as early as ... August?!!! and all that constant push to consume more and more and more and more.. I don't know, it's just ruined it for me.

  16. Merci, Tomate, for your plaint. I share the concern, and it has degraded my appreciation of Christmas. I like to see smiles, and wonder and sparkle in people's eyes, but there is less all the time.

  17. A very happy new year to you all! Thank you for this wonderful site, Eric.

  18. ooooooooooohh I can see the photo now! Pretty cool! I would have cropped it a little on the left so all you see are the 2 silhouettes in the foreground looking at the Xmas art. That'd make a kick-@ss card ;)
Love the hoodie on the right, adds another dimension to the photo.

@ Jeff: Yeah, used to be Xmas was confined to 1 month, and that was something to look forward to. Now, it's 6 months out of the year, give me a break!!
