Velib in the snow

Giant snowfall this morning over Paris. The whole city was a mess - including me on my scooter and people on Velibs! I took this photo around 8:45 while the roads were still clear (well sort of!) but a few minutes later it was all slippery everywhere. Funny as hell (except for those who had an accident.). Tomorrow is going to be worse apparently so I think I'll take the metro to work. That means less photos for you, I'm sorry...

  4. Wow, this guy is sure brave to ride a Velib on the snowy streets. And I agree with Suzy that you've really captured the chill. Why is it that when I hear it's snowing in Minneapolis I'm glad I don't live there anymore, but when it's snowing in Paris I desperately want to be there? Virginia I hope it snows again when you're there next month!

  7. I'd love to be in Paris in a snowstorm - as long as I wasn't driving or riding a bike!

Don't be sorry, be safe and take the Metro, Eric.

  9. Wonderful action shot. I think you did a nice job panning this. Keep warm out there and enjoy le Metro ride. I'm glad you were safe on the slippery streets. And by the way, we would love some candids from your commute. The Metro stations and even signs are very appealing to me, as well as interiors and exteriors of trains. Hope you'll consider taking lots of shots while en route.

  18. Me too SP.It was great fun along canal St Martin to Park La Villette. Wouldn't fancy cycling on ice though.
Love the lights shining though behind.

  19. I can feel the chill just looking at this—and still want to be there, of course! Love the little dots of color in what otherwise looks almost like a b&w. Now you stay safe & give us Metro shots, okay?

  21. I can't believe anyone would prefer Paris to Minneapolis. I'm wounded. And now Eric won't be risking his life to entertain us with more photos. What IS the world coming to? I get no respect, I telly ya. Beudeu geu deu! Pfft!

  22. You might have a white Christmas. The city looks so pretty when you wake up and see it covered with white sparkling snow. Yes, alas, it does get messy once everybody starts moving around, cars, buses, trains, etc. Oh and the falling down on the slippery ice covered cobblestone streets is not fun at all. That happened to me once. But I was young so I did not break anything.

  23. BTW, it's a fabulous photo B&W with a little colour. You really captured the man's expression on his face -- he looks seriously cold.

  26. Cobblestones and snowflakes probably don't make a great date in Paris or anywhere. Walk, pedal, scoot...safely mi amigo. Of course, as a former newspaper carrier in my youth, I'd pedal deep into the winter months not thinking twice about the snow. Of course, I was younger then and not the genius you have come to know today. Ahem.
