Saint George Tavern

How about a little concert for today? This band was actually playing at the Saint George Tavern, an English pub located next to my home. I did not go inside the place, I just passed by it and heard the music through the window on the way back from Le General Lafayette, a restaurant where I had dinner with Lucio (a regular visitor to PDP who normally lives in Melbourne). A delightful moment. BTW, back to this photo: I took it from the street, which gives it this "backstage" effect. Have a wonderful Weekend, it's going to be cold here (not Minneapolis cold, but Paris cold!)

  1. G'day Lucio!

Wow, looking at it from this perspective, I can easily say that being in a band is not for me. All those eyes!

I really like the colors in this one, Eric. It has movement.

  5. If that's the one I am thinking of I must walk past your home quite a lot! Odd place - we went there in April and they ran out of vodka!

Cold is better than the rain last weekend!

  6. Lucky you to meet Lucio. And, of course, vice-versa!
I'm sure you had a great time together. Love the colors in this shot, and the ambiance! And the composition—hey, I guess I like everything about it.

  7. Ah...an all too familiar sight. Love the perspective and detail you and your camera picked up. Looks like a set of new Gretsch drums and Sabian cymbals. Blues band? Great way to start the weekend. Stay warm and my best to Lucio too.

  8. Great photo! I can imagine the music, the noise in the bar, the smell of fried food and beer, and the music. :)

  11. Bonjour/bonsoir everybody!

It will come as no surprise to those of you who know Eric and Michael that I found them to be very intelligent, entertaining, and generous hosts. They made me laugh, they made me think, and, most important of all, they made me feel welcome in a city that has begun feeling like home - not least because of all the wonderful the people I have met here over the past few days. I was even privileged to be present when Eric took today's PDP photo!

My heartfelt thanks to them both for being so open and warm. Yes, friendly Parisians do exist (I'm counting you as a Parisian Michael)!

  12. Great shot!
    It could be a "Coltrane's view" ;-)
Now, thanks to Eric, I can feel what Coltrane is living when on stage!

Hi, Lucio! I hope you enjoy your stay in Paris!

  13. I tend to avoid 'English Pubs' when in Paris because I want to enjoy Parisian culture, not what I can get (better?) at home.
However...I love live music, so may make an exception in this case.
Add to list.(but remember to take a bottle of vodka)

Bonjour Lucio, sounds like you had a masterclass in hospitality!

  14. I love the backstage view. For a moment there, I thought you might be a drummer in your spare time.

  15. What?! You were in a restaurant in Paris and you did not photograph the food? Too bad!

  16. You guys are the best! ... If I'd known I was going to get a welcome like this, I would have come much sooner! Anyway, I hope to meet some of you during my stay and, if not, then perhaps on my future travels.

    Very best wishes to all!

  17. Thib... since many bars here have rid of smoking, it really is a more pleasant experience behind the kit. I no longer have to air out my clothes or my kit. :-)

  18. Don't miss the graffiti, Lucio!

I want to think this is Coltrane in the hat......
PS Coltrane, I am married to an English professor and the two of you can dispel any myths of profs smoking a pipe in a boring book laden room.

  21. Oh, this shot is through the window...for a moment there I thought you were the drummer in this band! :-) Wonderful shot. I love the colors and the drums in the foreground. Glad you got to meet Lucio for dinner. I bet you've lost count of how many PDP visitors you have met in person by now.
