Green Paris
You may think I took this photo in the country where I was this weekend, but no... I took it in the middle of Paris. Well almost in the middle, that is at Les Buttes Chaumont park located on a hill in the 19th arrondissement. It was inaugurated in 1867 during a world exhibition (you can see old photos of the area here) and since then, it has always been very popular (about 3 million people go though it every year). Probably because it's one of the rare gardens where you're allowed to walk on the grass, have a picnic, lay in the sun, enjoy a nice Spring day... and sometimes enjoy a beautiful light.

Parks are so essential for citylife. These days the fresh green is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful green -- oxygen.
ReplyDeleteWith these two who look together in the same direction. Simply beautiful.
A strong and healthy breath that I'm taking with you here and there by thought. Thank you for this shot.
Very bucolic! I envy you a walk in this beautiful park—and a weekend in the country as well (hope you enjoyed it). This looks like that famous perspective to me . . .
ReplyDeleteI think you can tell from this photo that there are dramatic drops within the park. It makes for a thrilling walk where you can almost forget you are in Paris.
ReplyDeleteWe've been there. It's a lovely park. For all the green, I see they're wearing winter coats.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely, Eric. It reminds me of a grown up version of one of my favorite photos, The Walk to Paradise Garden. I can't recall who took it now.
ReplyDeleteI used to frequent a Japanese restaurant in Buttes Chaumont. The Park, hence, was a regular stop-over. I still favour Parc Monceau, Jardin du Luxembourg is a close second.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this beautiful picture, Eric! It has been quite a while since I last commented.
Cheers!
It seems as though you took this photo from within a cave, vey beautiful indeed. And I have to say that I prefer garden strolls in winter; it's such an invigorating experience.
ReplyDeleteI have not visited this park yet. I guess this year is the opportunity to see it.
ReplyDeleteOh. Eric, this is one my favorite pictures ever! Seriously, gorgeously, beautiful. Such soft light and can you just imagine what they're talking about? Must be something serious...do you think they're a couple breaking up? A married couple who have forgotten how lovely it is to hold hands? A father giving a daughter some news she might not like? A first date where the woman is wishing desperately that he would reach out and touch her hand? Oh, so many possibilities! Intriguing, mesmerizing, this picture just draws me right into the story. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eric.
A beautiful photo indeed, to have sent Christie on such romantic musings! Wonderful. Is Les Buttes Chaumont the one with the rather gruesome history?
ReplyDeleteI like the park. It's way out of the way, so there is a different feel there.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so idyllic, I'll bet even the ants here are less troublesome than regular ants.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it like lungs of mine!
ReplyDeleteChristie put it into nice words. See, like in a movie, how actors and spectators can totally forget the presence of the camera. That's the way I feel with this shot. Seriously. A hand reaching the other is the following scene while a long cool walk in this park. Aaaah, I'm in the story, indeed :)
But, naturally the one who witnessed this picture was Eric.
I adore this photo. But unlike Chrisie I don't think there's any romance here. Just friends I think. After all our surmising Eric, what do you think?? Beautiful composition and softness to the trees.
ReplyDeleteFrom the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, you can also directly go for a walk to Père Lachaise cemetery where famous actors, poets, directors are buried.
ReplyDeleteYou know how healthy can be a cemetery walk too, don't you?
Take for instance rue Mouzaïa, walk by Villa Eugène Leblanc, Villa Emile Loubet, Villa Bellevue, Villa Sadi carnot and then here is the Père Lachaise cemetery. For graves lovers.
A wonderful moment captured, Eric, in a beautiful setting!
ReplyDeleteChristie, Flore, another possibility is that they are young parents! She is pushing the baby stroller in front of her (see her right hand), and he's carrying the cuddly toy (or "le doudou" !) in his right pocket ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it's a great photo!
Who knew there were such beautiful places inside the city? What a nice picture!
ReplyDeleteThib, that's a true possibility, you are right! I must admit your photographer eye has spoken! The Doudou clue is a good one and you took a more careful look of the shot than the transported girl I have been ;)
ReplyDeleteI think that Thib is right. It actually seems just like a cuddly toy in the man's pocket.
ReplyDeleteFantastic light! It is so green in Paris - I'm jealous!
Only Eric could tell us !
ReplyDelete... or these 2 people themselves, if they would know PDP... ;-)
Oh, I love that park. It is one of the most beautiful places in Paris.
ReplyDeleteGreen Paris, a possible baby ahead from his/her parents and a nice photo. Lately, I went to the Pont des arts and saw all the love padlocks that are closed along the grilling. See how romantic Paris is !!!
ReplyDeleteI´ve been there, it´s a delightful park. I was impressed by its size and the amount od green. Then I read at the entrance of the park that it is the largest one in Paris.
ReplyDeleteThere´s a beautiful lake there too and the spectacular view of Paris.
Oh I miss this city!!!!
The world needs more places like this.
ReplyDelete@Katie K "I see they're wearing winter coats." Yes, it was cold that day.
ReplyDelete@Keats. Welcome back!
@Christie. LOL You surely have a lot of imagination ;-) I have no idea - I just pulled the trigger without worrying too much of the actual people in the picture!
@Flore "But, naturally the one who witnessed this picture was Eric." True, but like I said I just noticed the aesthetic of the scene.
@Thib. Good observation. It could also be a, umbrella though...
C'est bien vu. Mais il faut aider Paris à cultiver et agrandir ses précieux jardins. C'est vital pour cette ville..., comme pour les autres villes mais peut-être, mais encore plus pour Paris puisque c'est ma ville. Vital.
