Still standing

Some of you may have seen these very impressive images from 2 days ago (Thursday)... A fire started in the underground parking lot (2nd level) of the Place Vendôme and no less than 52 cars and a scooter (not mine!) burnt down... Needless to say this fire was not really easy to put out. Today I went there and the police was everywhere, and so were the cars owners...  waiting to hear if theirs was toasted. News networks were there too, expecting to catch on tape the towing away of a few burnt cars...

  1. The video is quite horrifying. I hope I never have to see Paris in flames, and I'm grateful that the monument still stands. But above all that, I hope no one was hurt too badly.

I found a YouTube video of the 4th level which gives us an idea of what was possibly destroyed in the 2nd.

  2. I did not know about this - I hope no people were harmed. Sorry to hear about the loss of property, but at least those things can hopefully be replaced. Like E.T. Suzy, glad to hear that the monument was spared.

  3. I hadn't heard anything about this -- hope no one got hurt! I can imagine that this would not be easy to put out and glad that they were able to do so safely.

On another note, the sky is a BEAUTIFUL blue!!!

  4. I'm glad to see this, because from the photos the other day I thought everything would have been destroyed.

  5. That blue sky - wow. I just read that One person was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and around 30 cars were damaged in the fire, the cause of which is being investigated.

  6. Thanks for the update, Eric. I imagine all those cars were well insured—just glad no one was badly hurt.

  7. @extradiagetic. I actually read 52 cars, but who knows exactly?!
A homeless person was also there (he lives on the 3rd floor apparently, and he almost died). See his interview here.

  9. Quite a story, and it sounds like the loss could have been much worse than it was. Thanks for telling us, Eric.

I've missed you this week! Is there a PDP birthday bash tomorrow?
