Driving the metro

I used to very rarely take the metro (I had a scooter in Paris - which is now hopefully on its way to Malta!), but I did from time to time. For me it was almost like a game, especially when I could take the first car and see through the driver's door, like I did in this photo, as you can see! At that time I have a very basic camera, not very good with low light environments, obviously...

  1. The commuter train system here includes a tunnel beneath the Rideau Canal. I occasionally sit in the back car and watch the daylight vanish through the back window when we go inside. This reminds me of that.

  2. Wouldn't that be a bizarre job: driving a Metro train? Spending so many hours in such a surreal world of tunnels, stations, long steel tracks, movement, all underground. And don't forget the human passenger factor, which may be the strangest element of all. -Jeff

  3. Super photo! I used to do this with my kids when they were little and we rode the subway to school. We kept a list of the strange things we saw deep in the tunnels—such as a dead fish. (?!)

  4. I was on a metro train earlier this year and the 'lady driver' turned out to be one of the passengers - it was a driver-less train. If you can sit right up front it's great for playing train drivers!
Jeff, you could experience it at first hand. :-)

  5. Holy moly, Drummond. A passenger was sitting in the driver's seat? That's quite odd. I guess it was ok since you're still here to write about it! -Jeff
