Lost cause...

It's funny to browse through my old photos because it reminds me of many events that took place in Paris during these past 10 years. Hence this demonstration against the anti smoking in public spaces law from 2006! Tobacconists were not too happy about it because they thought it would harm their business! In fact it did not really unfortunately; after a slight drop after 2005, the number of smokers started to increase again...

  1. Once again this is an amazing photo, Eric. For, like it very often happened during all these lost years, you always seemed on the spot while an event was taking place. This photo is a brilliant illustration. Do not lose your French voting card, btw...! You still have the right to vote even from your far distance (I know you know ! Though you may be less interested by our local issues now and I will agree! The French politics is becoming so boring!). As for smokers, I am always amazed by the increasing number of still smokers despite the cost and despite the damage to the health... Some things are not understandable. As you are not a smoker, Eric, (me neither) let's go on a happy & healthy life! And good luck to the smokers...

  2. Your politics may be 'boring', Flore, but you should still vote. A lack of interest among voters leads to upheavals led by extremist factions, who get their supporters riled up to vote while more sane people stay home, too lazy to practice their right and responsibility to vote. This is insane after all. -Jeff

  3. I've never smoked, and much of the same anti-tobacco measures are in place here. I sometimes wonder if there are advocates out there so against it that they'd marginalize smokers even more.

  4. If I needed a photo-journalist, I'd hire you in a New York minute (comme on dit). Eric, when Genie and I went to Le Perchoir rooftop bar in September, not only were we the oldest people there by at least 30 years, we also seemed to be the only ones who were not smoking!
