Here we are...! It's been nearly 10 years, though it seems like just yesterday, when I started posting a photo a day of Paris on this blog after I was given a digital camera for my birthday.
It's been a wonderful experience, for many reasons. The main one being the many encounters that it allowed me to make; people from all over the world that became friends. The second reason why I’m grateful to PDP is that it allowed me to improve my photography skills. I had never had any interest in taking photos, but this daily routine forced me to get into it and improve my technique. I still don’t consider myself as a “real” photographer, but I have to admit that I’m proud of some of my shots. And the third reason is more of a personal achievement. I often think of myself as a quitter, someone who starts many things and stops when he is fed up or after the first difficulty arises. Well, after almost 10 years of not missing a single post, here is at least one occasion where I can call myself “a finisher”.
I’ve had the pleasure and honor to photograph everything from street protests to well known Paris monuments, I have also been asked to photograph wedding proposals and traveling monkeys, I’ve been the creator of what you’ve coined the "Tenin perspective" which really began as an easier way to get down on the ground to photograph silly things like gutters and dog poop! And last, but not least, I also had the great pleasure of picnicking along the Seine with PDP followers from around the world every year .
But things do change. For many reasons I've decided to leave Paris and settle down in Senglea, Malta on December 1st, 2014, which makes it difficult to continue this blog - even until its official 10 year anniversary. I would like to thank you all for your presence during these years (some of you have been following PDP - and commenting - since the dawn of “blogging time!”), wish you good luck for the future - starting with a wonderful 2015, and of course to find a nice replacement for PDP.
I also have a few special thoughts for all of my fellow CDP bloggers - the ones that are crazy enough to do the same in their own city! I wish them good luck for the future and remember not to miss a theme day!! and connect regularly to the portal! So now it’s only fitting that I end this adventure with a photo of the city I truly love as do so many of you. I took it on a summer night from the top of the Montparnasse Tower.
Au revoir et à bientôt and don’t forget to stay in touch on Facebook.
Grosses bises.
PS : for those of you who are asking for a Malta Daily Photo, well, there won't be one (at least not by me), but stay tuned, I'm sure to come up with something... ;-)

No "good night Mrs Calabash... wherever you are" ?! Well it's been a great run and you've been a great inspiration for me to start and continue ADP. I've been at it less than two years and I am in awe of you keeping PDP alive and thriving for nearly ten years. Enjoy your retirement. But I know you'll soon take on something equally exciting and challenging.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the photos. I've only been following you for a couple of years but it's been lovely to have a daily shot of our favourite city. Good luck in Malta.
ReplyDeleteEric, you have been a daily friend in my life that I can count on regularly for these last ten years. You have secured my love for France and its culture, way of life, its people and its role in the world for a better place to live. Your pictures are etched in my memory and will live with me in my dreams of visiting France soon and seeing those pictures come to life! As Bob Hope always said: "Thanks for the memories!".
ReplyDeleteEric mon cher ami, je te souhaite un merveilleux séjour en Malta.
à bientôt sur Facebook
Well it's very early on the other side of the world in Perth Australia and it's hard to comprehend that my 'start of the day' Paris fix will be no longer :( Your images have been an inspiration for so many M. Tenin, merci beaucoup. Here's wishing you a wonderful year ahead in your new life in Malta, all the very best from the land of OZ :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Eric, for all of your work - I was an avid follower for many years, and learned so much more about my favorite city than I ever would have if it weren't for you. I wish you all the best in Malta! With love and gratitude, "Pont Girl", aka Monnica
ReplyDeleteI wish you the best in this new stage of your life. And I hope we´ll hear from you soon with new and exciting projects to share with us. Happy New Year, Eric!
ReplyDeleteTime To Say Goodbye :-(
ReplyDelete(with apologies to Rogers and Hammerstein)
- There's a sad sort of clanging
from the clock in the hall
and the bells on the steeple too,
and up in the attic an absurd little bird
is popping out to say, Cuckoo!
Regretfully they tell us, but firmly they compel us
to say 'Goodbye' to you.
So long, farewell, au revoir, goodnight.
We hate you to go and leave this perfect site.
So long, farewell, auf weidersehen, adieu,
Goodbye Eric, from all of us to you!
(let's hope it's 'au revoir and not 'adieu'. Who knows I might even be tempted to go on Facebook!)
Eric, thanks for everything and good luck with your new life.
love and best wishes,
Drummond and Mai
Au revoir, et merci mille fois for every single wonderful photo over the years. I wish you all the happiness in the world, and if you're ever in New Mexico please let me be your tour guide.
ReplyDeleteBravo, Eric, what a way to finish up!
ReplyDeleteI'll admit to typing this with tears in my eyes. Eric, as I"ve told you ad nauseum, you and only YOU area responsible for my two blogs and the wonderful friendships and adventures I've had since I began in June, 2008. You and PDP changed my life and I will be forever grateful for that and for your friendship. I have always looked forward to seeing you in Paris and it won't be the same without you and Michael. We will stay in touch I know. Much love, V
ReplyDeleteI'm sad to see you go, Eric, but want to thank you so much for the joy you've brought me over these years.
ReplyDeleteParis has been my favorite city since I was a child. And one day I'll get there. Seeing her through your lens has been a wonderful experience that has only added to the love I have and the need to visit one day.
Thank you so much for PDP, and good luck in all you do in the future!
You have been an inspiration for my own photo blog. :) Wishing you all the best for the future, Eric.
ReplyDeleteEric, you and you photos will be missed. It's my hope that our PDP blog will not be deleted. I'd like to think that from time to time I can return for a visit. Best wishes for a happy life.
ReplyDeleteYou are a true ambassador of Paris. Thank you Eric from us here in Sydney.
ReplyDeleteBises, Eric! We will miss you and your wonderful photos and personal perspectives on life in the City of Light. One of these days I will be moving to Malta as well, and when that happens I certainly hope to run into you with a camera in hand. You have been such an inspiration to me personally, since it was your blog that (naturally) inspired me to do mine, and I can't even quantify the pleasure I get out of documenting my city in the fashion that you pioneered for all of us. Best of luck to you in your new home! Vous allez nous manquer! Au revoir et bonne chance!
ReplyDeleteAs a daily visitor I am sad to see it stop. ( Ashburn, Virginia, USA ) I've been to Paris 3 times and a 4th coming this spring I always search your site for places to see that other may have missed. Sorry to say but Malta just ain't Paris.....
ReplyDeleteI'm really sad to read this post. I hoped there would be a 'continuation' from Malta. As many other Daily Photographers you were the inspiration to start my own. Bonne chance et à toute à l'heure.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! What an accomplishment. We love you lots and thank you for bringing Paris into our daily lives. I've made several friends because of your dear blog and I am forever grateful. xo Anne
ReplyDeleteDoorways and Le Metro...
ReplyDeletePeace always with your endeavors
Uigei
I'll miss your regular posts, mon ami. I wish you happiness and an exciting new beginning in Malta!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Eric, for these many years of Paris views, wonderful photography (you are not an amateur in my book), and virtual friendship. I will miss your humor, insight and daily posts.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the best in your new life in Malta.
Bonne chance! Au revoir!
Aïe... Makes me feel sad. And old.
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how much this blog has meant to me and my first years in Paris. I'm so happy i've got to know you through PDP mon très cher Eric and then in real life. Tu n'imagines pas. On se voit à Malte très bientôt, compte là dessus. Love, guille.
Paris will always be Eric's Paris!
ReplyDeleteSo sad that your blog is over. Loved your beautiful shots and unique points of view on the most beautiful city of the world. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteEric I have so much to thank you for. For being the inspiration to start my own blog, for being my early morning coffee friend, for being a place to escape to during a very tough time a couple of years ago, for decorating my office wall and finally, for being an inspiration to my daughter who will embark on her very first trip to Paris in 2015. She is scrolling through your blog to find out as much as she can about Paris and to find as many fun things to see and do that she can cram in to a week. I've already told her one week is not enough and she will be back ;-)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could express just how much your blog has meant to everyone.
Now I need to rejoin Facebook so I can keep in touch.
Debs :)
At least one ET will remain in Paris.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eric. Best of luck with everything.
And what a photo to end with, Eric!! Beautiful. Merci and best wishes from your friend in Northern Michigan. I have dreamed and hoped and planned for the last several years to visit this beautiful city, and it will finally happen in 2015. You inspired me to have a Petoskey Daily Photo for over a year and I learned so much about my own city and its history and beauty. You have been an inspiration to so many and made famous the Tenin perspective. I am sad to see the PDP end, wishing I would have made it to a picnic to meet some of my dear friends from all over the world. I've been so blessed to meet many friends here, both online and even in person! Many thanks, Eric, for your faithfulness and diligence in posting pictures of Paris for us through rain, shine, snow, illness, and any other obstacle life threw your way. May you enjoy the sunshine and rain in Malta and enjoy learning about a whole new place with opened eyes. You see things differently once you've been behind a camera. Merci and au revoir.
ReplyDeleteI knew it would be the ET -- and I knew it would be spectacular! I too have to thank you for inspiring my own blog(s); because of you I found a whole new world and a lot of new friends, including you. I will miss seeing you when I come to Paris, but I can't think of a better excuse to finally visit Malta than you and Michael. A bientot, j'espere. Je t'aime bien!
ReplyDeleteHave enjoyed your blog for many years! Enjoy your new adventures!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Eric on this wonderful and sad occasion.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you never imagined that you would start a City Daily Photo revolution, but you did. You were able to inspire people all over the world to follow in your footsteps - very impressive (I'm glad you used that power for good and not evil...you could have been a cult leader - well, you kind of are, but a benevolent one!)
You were even able to foster friendships on and offline, an incredible achievement.
Best of luck in your new life and all future endeavors.
Merci bien pour tout, et tu as mes vœux les plus sincères
With tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat I exclaim one final time:
ReplyDeleteEIFFEL TOWER!
EIFFEL TOWER!!
EIFFEL TOWER!!!
I love you and everything you represent, dear Eric. Paris will never look the same to me without your presence.
Yours,
ET Suzy
Eric, your Paris Daily Photo blog may be going out in style, but for me, you are never leaving!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember anymore when I discovered there is someone else out there who sends a daily postcard from his city, but I sure never forget what delight I felt then, and to this day. Merci beaucoup for the wealth of images and friendship you shared over the years. Somehow Paris has not yet been a place I had the pleasure to visit, but thanks to you, I feel I have been there a zillion times!
Merci and best wishes for your future, hoping for an au revoir some place else, and soon,
Merisi
Bravo et merci pour les DP et votre PDP, votre idee etait geniale

ReplyDelete"I knew this day would come, when you would be taken from me." [Aznavour, "A Ma Fille" trans.] I've been a follower for 9 years and have eagerly looked forward to each posting from my favorite city. Thank you for your generosity and for giving us dreamers entrée into Parisian life, not to mention the famous "Tenin Perspective." I wish you much happiness in your new life. Au Revoir. Rimabirdgirl
Dear Eric, Others have said it but I too must thank you - for so much - for more than you know. Thanks to you and PDP I too started my two blogs, Menton and Monte Carlo, and like you, my photography improved so that now it's my passion. And like you, because it is a daily thing, I've had to stick with it. Discipline I'd never have found without it. Many of my friends now are photographers - and yes, thanks to you all my money now goes on new photography gear! But of course best of all, is getting to know you and Michael personally. That has meant so much to me. I wish you all the luck in the world in Malta and hope to see you in the south of France soon! Thank you, dear Eric, for just about everything really...!
ReplyDeleteThe end...it honestly brings tears to my eyes right now....even so I hardly comment, I watch your view of the so much loved Paris everyday, since I discovered you in 2007...they are no words to describe your work and love for PDP,but I want to thank you so very much from my heart,to make my day,and dreaming of Paris everyday...what more can I say Eric, I wish you everything you wish for ,in 2015 and your future Peace Love and Happiness to you...and I will still look into PDP..as they still many photos to look @.....and I will keep in touch via Facebook or email... Au Revoir Eric, ..and only the very best for you in Malta...Kara ***from the hot Down Under
ReplyDeleteEric....yours is one of the very first blogs I ever read about Paris. As a blogger myself, I know how difficult doing a post a day is. Congratulations on making PDP such a huge success. Best of luck in your new adventures on Malta. We Paris-lovers will miss you!
ReplyDeleteIt was great to follow your photos all those years. Enjoy 2015 and thanks for your beautiful photos that made me love Paris even more :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Eric for all your wonderful pictures, I have follow your blog for a long time, giving me a different view of my favourate city... enjoy Malta.. regards Peter
ReplyDeleteYou should be awarded Meilleur Ouvrier de France in the blogging category.
ReplyDeleteDear Eric, this is the first comment I make and it is to thank you for all the beautiful pictures you made. The first thing I did every morning was to look at the photo of the day. I wish you a happy life in Malta! Love from the Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteA perfect ending. Thanks for all your terrific photos of the city I love. You will be missed.
ReplyDelete+1 👍 thank you for ending it by a so beautiful post, included the -moving- links and the news. You'll be missed. I'd like to keep you again with me each day. See how possessive pdp made me! Take care of you Eric. All my thoughts.
DeleteAnd of course, how could you end with anything other than the Eiffel Tower? Thank you for years and years of photos making it possible for us to be in Paris every day no matter where we were in body. Good luck in Malta.
ReplyDeleteIt has been great blogging along side Paris Daily Photo for all these years. I guess all things hase to come to an end. Enjoy your new life in Malta.
ReplyDeleteSo many thanks for all you have done creating the city blog movement and keeping it going all these years. Hope you will a great time living in Malta and look forward to seeing you from Facebook off and on.
ReplyDeleteI have been following you since your first year, perhaps even your first months, and although I've only commented 4 or 5 times over the years, your view of Paris has shaped my own. We've been travelling to Paris annually since 2005, and it's a rare trip that I don't have a list of spots I want to check out directly inspired by shots you've posted here. We tracked down a beautiful modern sculpture inside the church just behind the Pompidou centre, thanks to you, and when we visited, a children's choir was practising, accompanied by organ -- sublime! And we trekked up to Montmartre, looking not so much for the big white dome (hard to miss!) as for the less noticeable, but more memorable to me, statue of the man coming out the wall (Le Passe-Muraille). We've strolled the Coulée Verte many times, having first discovered it thanks to you. You will be much missed, but I will continue to remember you and your blog as Iwander the streets of Paris on future visits -- I wish you all the best in your next adventure. Thanks for all you've done here.
ReplyDeleteI think you knew this would be your last photo the moment you took it, and you've been saving the best for last - correct? I write to thank you for my new SCREENSAVER - a very nice, belated Christmas present! It's a wistful moment to think I can never complement your Paris photos again, but many thanks for your dedication over the years. Wherever your travels take you, may the road rise to meet you and the wind be at your back. Au Revoir from Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
ReplyDeleteOne more wet handkerchief waving you a Bon Voyage, Eric! I will miss your PDP but like all the others, I wish you a delightful future in Malta! Thank you so much for all the work you put into PDP. I have a treasure trove of your photos I have saved to use in my laptop screensaver, and with each one I will be sending you good thoughts! Au revoir!
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing Paris into our daily lives and shared its heartbeat with us! You have made Paris so much more accessible to us and we feel so much more at home in our favorite city! It was a privilege meeting you this summer, too bad you had an unsettled stomach after your spicy lunch, I had dinner on the stove, but I trust the wantons were to your liking! Happy New Year and good luck in Malta!
ReplyDeleteHow many times will you hear this famous line today: "We'll always have Paris."? What fun and happiness and wonderful insights you've given so many PDPers over these ten wonderful years. You've brought people together in a community of friendship and creativity. Some of us just can't thank you enough for the way you've influenced our daily lives. Thank you for the hard work and dedication you put into the publication and building the CDP community
ReplyDeleteI am wishing you much happiness in this new sunny chapter in Malta. Thank you with all my heart, Mr. Friendly Parisian, and "Happy trails to you" my friend.
ReplyDeleteLove from Kim
Seattle Daily Photo
Beautiful photo, beautiful commentary. Bon chance! Wishing you another fabulous chapter in Malta!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all Eric and bonne chance in Malta!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your beautiful, funny, witty photographs - best wishes
ReplyDeleteEric, what can I say? From the first time I saw PDP (which my buddy Craig found) and the first picnic (2006), to all the people I met online and subsequently in person. (I forgot Monica and Monnica and Anisa on my post yesterday.) I now have friends in several cities around the world as well as in the U.S. You know I wish both of you the best of luck and life. Maybe we'll meet again face to face, but we will stay in touch one way or another. Wow. Last PDP post. A bientot, a prochain... -Jeff
ReplyDeleteSo grateful for the journey. Pondering no daily Eric. Hmmm. Might we hear more from you on Twitter? Merci, merci, mon ami. Bon chance, Susan
ReplyDeleteThank you for many wonderful views of Paris. Yes, I will miss your work and comments. Best Wishes.
Bises. Thib.
Again: thank you for our daily "visit" to Paris. We will miss it ! Good luck on Malta and a very happy New Yaer !
ReplyDeleteIt has been a very good travel with you through your lens for 7 years. Thanks a lot. And I wish that you will be back again when you want
ReplyDeleteI have been a follower of PDP for 7 years of your 10 years, since I found you (last of 2007) looking for pictures of Paris, because I would like to back to view Paris, the city that was the begining of my marriage.
DeleteI only ask you for your Best Photo of Year 2014 to be part of the Theme Day.
My dear friend Eric
ReplyDeleteCongratulations in starting and finishing such a beautiful piece of work! Over the years you have impressed so many people with your creativity, originality and perseverance in making this blog such a special place. You have showed us places where we would have never found out about if it wasn't for you.
Also, thank you!
Thank you for being such a wonderful host at the PDP picnics.
Thank you for introducing me to so many friends - I wont mention everyone in case I miss someone out.
But above all thank you for your friendship. It has been an honour to be part of PDP and have you as a friend.
Lots of love and good wishes in Malta and everywhere else you go to... x
Well, it's after 22:00 in Malta, so I'm sure Eric has turned off the lights from his end of PDP. As I read these comments I am reminded how Rose is right: I started naming people yesterday, and even now I'm still forgetting some (such as Thib). My apologies to anyone I haven't mentioned (Tall Gary for example). I still have trouble accepting that, as many have stated, we won't have our daily dose of Paris anymore. We'll have to live with our own photos. However, there are other Paris blogs, some of which are fun and, well, will just have to be enough for us. You guys have a great new chapter and stay in touch. -Jeff
ReplyDeleteWhy not leave a successor? Someone who continue to blog for those of us who love Paris . I think more than one would want to do it. You can make a contest, a casting, I don´t know. The issue is not losing the connection of a community of many fans and so many years. Well, it's only a suggestion. Beautiful picture, by the way. And Happy New Year to everybody!
ReplyDeleteHow odd that I am on your site for the first time in a year and here you are saying good bye. OK, if you insist I will move to Paris and take over for you ... All is well here on The Prairie and I hope it is for you in Malta. Happy New Year !!!
ReplyDeleteWell done, Eric. I hope you look back on your own ten years of photography and blogging with pleasure, and that you take additional pride in seeing all those who now follow your blogging lead in the CDP community.
ReplyDeleteYou can exit with your head held high. Enjoy your time on Malta.
Wow, end of an era indeed! Eric thank you for so many wonderful years of fabulous Paris photos (and info about things going on there), as well as creating such a vibrant and fun community (both online and in person). It was fun meeting up with you both in San Francisco all those years ago, and in Paris, as well as meeting in person so many people I first "met" on PDP. I'm sure you had no idea when you started your blog where it would lead, but I'm so happy you decided to have a go at blogging! All my best wishes for an amazing new adventure in Malta!
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see you go. I will miss my daily fix from Paris. Beautiful picture to say goodbye with. You know I wish you all the luck in the world in Malta. Peace and joy and happy new year from England. Xx
ReplyDeleteBonne Année Eric.
ReplyDeletePar la même occasion, un gros Merci pour ce blog. J;ai beaucoup appris sur Paris à travers vos photos.
A la prochaine pour un redux.
A beautiful final photo! It's really hard to believe that this is the end for PDP. Thank you for all the photos and comments over the years. I will miss you! BEST OF LUCK from Harriet in Charleston SC USA.
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous photo to wrap things up with a very beautiful bow ~ perfection. Thank you, dear Eric, for the many sides of Paris you've shown from the ground up ~ literally. :) Thank you for your generous and giving spirit ~ to keep posting daily is something of which I remain in awe. And I've made such lovely friends through PDP ~ it's been quite a ride. Wishing you a happy new year and much fun as you begin your new adventures in your new home!! Shell xo
ReplyDeleteThanks for your great idea all those years ago, and for your wonderful pictures, your conscientious posting, your friendly chat... Best wishes for your Maltese adventures!
ReplyDeleteEric.. Thank you for ALL the great insight into a city I truly love. You’ve given it a spirit, in images, that many never see but now have been exposed by your work.. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.
ReplyDeleteHave a great new adventure and best wishes to you and yours in the new endeavor..
W
Thank you so much for sharing Paris with all of us! Wishing you much happiness in the new year!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories -- mille fois.
ReplyDeleteYou know how I feel. It's been a long wonderful ride. You can now never say to yourself that you are a quitter. You have stayed engaged for something very important to you (and to us, of course)--and probably long past reason. And you founded the worldwide movement, the city daily photo blogs. I wish you luck, longevity, and love in 2015 and beyond. But to be hyper colloquial, if you think this is the end of our friendship, you have another think coming. So there.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much everyone, I did not have the time to read all your comments in depth, but I will and I will try to respond to everyone. What better start could I dream of for this new year?!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Eric. Thank you for your inspiration! I have been making TilburgDailyPhoto for five years now, and it's a inspiring hobby.

A finisher.....what a wonderful attribute! You are amazing, Eric, and your photos have given me such perfect and needed escapes more than you could know. Thank you for the beauty and the history, the quirkiness and fun; thank you for the birds' eye views and those from ground (!) level. And, thank you for the community you built around the world, for this sense of solidarity. Paris Daily Photo will remain on my blogroll. All good wishes for you and your future.
ReplyDeleteJe ne suis pas sûre qu'il y ait autant de thèmes à photographier à Malte, mais je te souhaite d'y trouver ton compte, même sans clic quotidien! Enjoy! And Happy New Year, in Malta or everywhere else. Annie Fave

What a long strange trip it's been. Thank you Eric.
ReplyDeleteEric - it's so impressive that you created a worldwide tradition that brings joy to a multitude of people EVERY DAY.
ReplyDeleteWhen I had the opportunity to meet you...I was thrilled and nervous...you were such an icon! It's been a rare treat and a privilege to meet other fine people via your vast Fan Club.
Wishing you a delicious retirement from the PDP responsibility; you will be missed!
xx,

I had so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
Eric, thank you so very very much for the friends all around the world I have now due to Moscow Daily Photo, for my photo skill improved, for the pleasure to walk every day the streets of the city I love, for the insights into life of so many great people out there.
ReplyDeleteGood luck at Malta! Happy Holidays! Happy New 2015!
Eric, I have to tell you something you may not already know: I miss your photos 😒 and you here ...😣 !
ReplyDeleteBtw, you always told us which was, according to you, the best photo of the year. Oh I know how you feel ! This is always such a hard choice to pick just one! Too late ok.. Let me think ... from my memories, ...the one you posted the 3rd of May... ☺️ I am kidding but I still love it. You may miss this rainy day In a few months when Malta will be as hot as fire. Forgive me saying that, I am just green with envy 😊 pff!
Eric, I have looked at your blog on most days over the last 10 years and whilst not commented very often, wish to thank you for your dedicated and generous efforts in starting this phenomenon. You have provided some great insights about Paris and provided all of us with photographic inspiration, I'm sure. All the very best with whatever you decide to do in the future. Regards, Rich Painter
