Chatelet Theater
Here is a pretty famous Paris theater, called Le Théâtre du Chatelet, located, quite logically... at Place du Chatelet. It's a beautiful theater, inside like outside, inaugurated in 1862 by the wife of Napoleon the 3rd (Empress Eugénie). They show a lot of music there, like operas or recitals and even musicals ; last December they had "the Sound of music", called La mélodie du Bonheur in French (happiness melody) and pretty soon (Feb 24) they are going to host Les César awards ceremony (the equivalent to the Oscars in the US)...

THIS is a beautiful site....
ReplyDeleteJ'aime tes photos du Theatre du Chatelet. I walked through there many times before I saw one of your photos, and now I appreciate the beauty of both theaters on the place. Of course, you know I was in love with le Tour St. Jacques even when it was shrouded. I have other nice memories of Chatelet as well.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stone work on the theatre and I love the way you've captured the golden light. I've been to Paris many times, but you are giving me great ideas of places to go on future visits - thanks, Eric!
ReplyDeleteClearly I must go there. It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLove the theater, hate the Metro station.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. I can easely imagine to dress up and go there for a show.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful building.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous shot of this fabulous theater, Eric. And I'm with Mrs. Vandertramp! :~}
ReplyDeleteMrs. VanderT......that cracked me up. Chatelet and Montparnesse are the worst.
ReplyDeleteTell us: what's wrong with the Metro station there?
ReplyDeleteThe Chatelet Metro station is a junction of five Metro lines and the station is humungous. Ssometimes you feel like you will never get out of it. Also, there are numerous street exit/entry points and it's easy to find yourself in an unknown location when you emerge at street level. Of course, if you're on holiday, who cares? You're in Paris!
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking! One of the prettiest theater I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful shot. LOL about the Chatelet Metro - it is a giant cluster-f***, but I do love the way the recorded Metro lady says "Chatelet" before the stop - it sounds so pretty!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous light. Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us, Eric.
ReplyDeleteSimply pretty.
ReplyDeleteAgree with the comments about the mess of a métro station..but also with the soft lovely voice announcing.."Châtelet"... Awesome pic of the theatre though...love it.
ReplyDeleteI was in Paris for the last ten days. Walked by beautiful Chatelet many times as it is a metro hub. Very surprised to walk by on Friday night and the red carpet was laid out...tons of people....it was the Cesar awards. Many celebrities including Jean DuJardin. Thanks for the photos...am home and already miss Paris
