I was supposed to attend an event at Place Saint Germain last evening, but once I got there I realized that I had the wrong date! So I went inside the beautiful Saint Germain Church, on the other side of the street. There was a mass going on, so I tried my best to be discrete and took this photo, which I really like - don't ask me why, probably because of the light and the peace that it conveys. That's all!

I like it, I like it very much!
ReplyDeleteThere is a special feeling whenever you enter a French church as old as this one. Just thinking about all of the thousands upon thousands of people who have worshipped here through the centuries gives me tingles.
ReplyDeleteI'm always afraid to snap a photo inside of a church - well done, Eric.
A very nice photo, and difficult to take in that dark, Medieval church.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful. I love old churches. Thank you for a lovely photo.
ReplyDeleteI also like this picture....I especially like the mystery associated with the fact that we see the congregation facing something that we can't see from behind the camera.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful image -- and ditto to Monnica and old black's thoughts. It has a wonderful warm feeling with all the painterly soft edges and highlights and the rich golds and greens, though it was probably cold inside based on how people are dressed.
ReplyDeleteWow. One that I really like as well, Eric. The light is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteditto Monica, Jeff and old black (I'm such an imitator!). I like the mystery of churches, especially Parisian ones.
ReplyDeleteI'm a copy cat too, I can only agree to what has already been said.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful and peaceful and I love the colours.
There is a comfort and serenity in this photo - thank you Eric
ReplyDeleteWonderful and silent photo.
ReplyDeleteCongrats,amazing one!
ReplyDeleteI just love that -dark yellow light- that is linking all the places in Paris...
I've never been there, but I did see a lot of photos with that same feeling and atmosphere, peace and love!
Seems like this -yellowish light- is kind of typical for Paris?
:D
Thank you for missing the right date,Eric!
Beautiful image. I think you captured the feelings of peace and serenity perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI started to check out your blog because I love Paris and just wanted to see daily photos of the city. As time went on I kept coming back because the quality of the photos was so great, like this photo which is a beauty. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHear, hear, Craig Davies - and welcome to our corner of the world! Eric just gets better and better with time and if we're all lucky he'll want to keep going. I've no doubt that his intellect and eye will only continue to refine his images. And we are the lucky beneficiaries!!
ReplyDeleteI love this church. When I'm in there I feel like the prayers of centuries of worshipers have permeated those old stones and so, yes, it is very peaceful. You've captured that feeling perfectly, Eric—merci bien!
ReplyDelete@Carrie "I've no doubt that his intellect and eye will only continue to refine his images. And we are the lucky beneficiaries!!" ;-) dearest Carrie... In fact, it takes so many parameters to take a good photo (among which luck!) that I really cannot assure you my photos will always get better. One thing I can tell you is that, quality is my first concern when I take a photo - I know very well I don't always succeed (I don't always have the right idea, the time, or the right angle), but it's constantly always in my mind.
ReplyDelete@Craig. I'm glad that a "story teller" bothers to stop here :-) Thanks.
