I found this painting at Beaubourg on one of the chimney that vent the underground parking lot and I really froze when I saw it - not because of the cold(!), but because of the strength of this work of art. I did not know anything about Konny, but I looked up on the Web and found out her full name is Konny Steding and that she is German. Have a look at her website and have a good Sunday.

Wow, this is one that you really have to enlarge to appreciate (at least for me). It is even more impressive when you see how large the chimney vent is. I also learned something new today. I did not know this was a chimney vent - I thought it was part of the overall funkiness of the Pompidou Centre!
ReplyDeleteNot my favorite piece of art, but very striking.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of an Impressionist girl myself, I love Monet, Degas, and Cassatt. Can't wait to visit the Musee d'Orsay!
Beaubourg never fails to intrigue. I'm not always sure I appreciate it but I like that I"m often pushed out of my "box". Paris has a fine way of doing that !

It's very impressive and HUGE, I like it.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right V.
Ok Eric, so here are a few questions. There always seems to be some sort of art/graffiti/posters on these chimneys. How do they get them up there without being caught AND who takes down the previous works?
ReplyDelete@Michael. Well I don't know. I suppose they climb up the rooftops taking huge risks.
ReplyDeleteAs for covering other work, there is a sort of honor code between graffiti guys and girls. Normally you should not cover someone else's work...
Powerful, disturbing artwork.
