Cool statue isn't? I never noticed it until this afternoon when I happened to find myself at the Tuilerie gardens, on the right end side. The "guy" is not mad because it's going to rain, but because he... just killed his brother! For yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is Cain (one of the sons of Adam and Eve in the Bible) and the statue was made by Henri Vidal, a French Sculptor (1864-1918) I know absolutely nothing about!
There's something very spooky and ominous about the sky this photo. Great capture!

ReplyDeleteI've been to Paris a few times and the first time I went it was a day similarly pictures and I fell in love with this statue. I'm not sure what it is about the statue, but each time I've gone back to find it and just stare at it for a while. Thank you for finally revealing the story to me. Great Photograph, the sky cooperated with the mood of the picture.
ReplyDeleteProves that you should not consider dreary days bad for taking photos. The sky fits the mood of the body posture and emotion of the sculpture.
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference from pedestrian images I found on the internet, all shot from eye level including distracting trees and architecture on flat lit sunny days. Eric's image, shot closer from a slight low angle, but including the full figure, interpenetrates the sculpture stressing the emotion. The rendition of the muscles is strong. the inclusion of part of a tree behind to frame the white sculpture doesn't hurt either. Attention to detail counts!
