Fashion star!

I rarely show people on this blog but this time I could not help it. I think this lady is perfect to illustrate La Semaine de la haute couture which just closed yesterday and which is a unique occasion for designers to show their work.. Of course this is not exactly a Haute Couture outfit (mind you, I'm not really an expert, but I don't think so...) but you can really feel the sense of fashion in this lady. And by the way, dear - female - viewers, if you want to see what you'll be wearing next fall/winter - 2008 -, here is a sneak preview ;)
Discuss Paris fashion and many other topics in the PDP forum.

  2. Mais non, elle habite à San Francisco! ;)

If this is "haute couture" then Coco Chanel is probably rolling over in her grave right now! ;) ... although .. come to think of it, we've steen strangest outfits on the catwalks ! :)

OK, I'll stop right here before I get in trouble or something...

  3. You are right, dear Eric, this is NOT haute couture!! However she certainly has her own style and i admire that and i love colour, even though i spend most of my life in plain black. lol.
I like her very much, it's a great photo.
As for what we'll be wearing...um... okay i'll accept the Chanel choice. lol!

  4. Hmmm clothing? Not really my forte. I must admit I love the lady's colors, and she has a better sense of fashion than I have. With the cool shades, she walks with confidence. She's probably on her way to buy some Miles Davis recordings (it's the shades and cool stare that tipped me off). :-)

  5. I'm always fascinated by the comments and how differently we xometimes view a photo. I find the woman's expression very unattractive. She looks unhappy!

  6. I enjoy the link to the fashion site. Thanks, Eric. Am a Valentino fan... :)

  7. Agree with aforementioned comments. Just one more: a scrunchie? really? Enough said.

  8. I don't know what a scrunchie is, so I found this. Interesting...

Kate, you're right she looks pretty unhappy - well maybe not unhappy but bored or frustrated. And, if you pay attention, it's often the looks models have on fashion shows!

  9. I think she looks a bit like Paris Hilton.

I think it seems that couturiers sometimes try to turn women into clowns and to make fun of them. I'd like designers to be women!!!!!!!!! Or men who really like women. Models are superthin and superpale and I dont find them pretty at all.

  10. Mon Dieu!! I must have one of those "cutlery" ensembles! I'd be the hit of every buffet table west of the Rockies!! As they would say in a land locked state..."Gadzooooks"!!

One certainly couldn't wear it to travel...can you imagine the scene at the airport?

Where is Dior, Givenchy or Yves Saint Laurent when you need them?? Au-secours!!! Vite!!!

  11. Do you really think we'll all be wearing this? Please lord, I hope not!

  12. I think as Lynn, she seems to dare an own style. I don't know if this is today's fashion or not, but I don't think I have seen many ladies dressed like this in my arrondissement, maybe more in the 6th, where I understand you found her?

  13. I agree with Marie. What ever happened to the Powers Models. The runways feature bulimic disenchanted girls that walk like their feet and legs are at war with each other and don't know where to go. The dress looks more like bas couture. The dress fabric on this persons looks like fruit barf. She is moderne with her latest hemline. Ugh!!

  14. I have a few hours off. I am just changing to spend some time with friends at my local pub. In honour of your picture, i shall be wearing: a white and gold tiered skirt, worn in a slovenly way falling from my hips, sparkly flip-flops, a black, pink and blue t shirt not dissimilar to the one she wears, some HUGE sunglasses which were free with a glossy mag (i won't be able to see a thing, i need prescription ones), and yes a scrunchie ponytail. I will attempt to attach my mobile phone somewhere around my person and i may even sport a designer carrier bag, see-through of course to reveal my designer belongings.

When questioned, i shall blame it on you Eric. Actually it won't be too much of a surprise, two weeks ago we were going out to a 'summer holiday' play in a group. I was told to wear beach attire. Yes you've guessed; they played a trick on me and i spent the evening in a bikini top and sarong. Ahhh who cares, just get up and dance, i did!
    Well, wish me luck!

  15. I just love the exhuberance of colour that this lady is wearing - she has her own style - it's individual - long live individuality! She's tidy, nicely done hair. I agree with Kate that her expression is not attractive but she was caught by your camera, unawares. She may not be unhappy. In fact I don't believe an unhappy person would choose to wear those bright happy colours. Sad people often wear browns and greys.

  16. Oh my god! It's one of the worst outfits I have ever seen!

  17. I am with Jilly.
She is obviously an Australian and knows jolly well how to set an example when visiting any city in the world, especially Paris.
Just look at the confidence she exudes. She will probably wear a bikini top and a sarong tomorrow, if she wakes early enough.
The next day she may even play the digeridoo on Pont Neuf.

  18. Eric you´re a mind reader! I was just thinking that I´d love to see something about the haute couture week in Paris because the other day I saw a little bit about it on TV5.
And there was our famous brazilian top model Gisele Bundchen doing her thing with those wonderful dresses!

About the scrunchies I have to say there was a very "serious" (!) statement about in in Sex and the city: it´s not branché! (says Sarah Jessica Parker character and I must say I agree with her!)

  19. I'm still laughing from some of your comments! Tonton flaneur, I can picture you so well in that kind of outfits LOL

And Lynn, that is so well ironically described! I'm still laughing...

Jenny I don't understand... What's wrong with this dress LOL?

Will be back, have to work...

  20. My sense of fashion gravitates towards the less busy and ornate. Clean lines. I am more like all those in this photo surrounding this young lady. But I applaud "la difference" she makes with her splash of color or maybe explosion of it??? At any rate I think she is beautiful and truly ROCKS, scrunchy and all. :)
    Happy weekend everyone. Peace.

  21. A little pouty anger in a defiantly independent young women with little fashion sense. C'est tres tendance!

  22. I knew that this photo would be pretty controversial. Funny. It's only an outfit, but I can understand that people feel disturbed by it.

One thing; this is just an snapshot, don't take for granted that she "pouts" like this all the time, LOL!

Well maybe, after all, I don't know her!

  23. I thought she looked like a young Donatella Versace like the skirt, like the tshirt but not together .

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't think she looks pouty, or sad, or anything - it's just the shape of her face, slightly receding chin, and she looks like countless women in countless cities going about their business and being snapped in an instant.

I don't like the outfit much - handkerchief hemlines are, like, sooooooooo 1968 and I didn't like them then! But c'est la vie!

  25. Do you remember the story of the blind men and the elephant? They all described various parts of the elephant body in different ways by touching it.

As for me, I have examined the face. She doesn't seem sad. She just has a baby face which goes into a pout. This is one blind (wo)man weighing in with her feelings. :-)
