Champs de mars
I passed by the Champs de Mars today. The weather was so beautiful that I had to stop! When I saw this kid on the scooter, I thought it would be perfect to have him in the foreground while the Eiffel tower would be in the back. I rushed, took several photos and finally selected this one because of the composition, the colors and the fact that he does not face the camera. The monument you can see in between the Eiffel Tower and him is the Peace Wall that I already mentioned in 2005.

ReplyDeleteWell done! Great shot!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that's really a kid? He's not dressed like a kid.

ReplyDeleteChamps de Mars...Ahhhh..My "hood"!! LOL!! Love it!! I think this photo has the makings of one of your "All Time Biggest Hits"...d'accord??? ;-) I can see raves coming in now as I type..
ReplyDeleteAfter a second look it reminds me of an AirFrance ad...just sayin'...

ReplyDeleteAnd he didn't notice you down there on the ground?
ReplyDeleteWell, you certainly got the shot!
Love the idea of the Peace wall, but kind of agree with those who would rather they had put it someplace else.
Oh, and just in case Suzy is busy today: ET! ET! ET!
ReplyDeleteWhen the PDP site opened, I definitely felt the gasp of turning that corner and facing up the Champs de Mars. And the feel of the sun, the breeze, and the smile on my face. Great photo.
ReplyDeleteGo Suzy!!!! Oh, and a fantastic picture Eric. This will be in my top ten PDP shots.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love the blue sky!
ReplyDeleteThe scooter is perfect here. Do Parisian kids all dress so fashionably too too?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful composition.

ReplyDeleteThe kid? He looks like a grown man. What a great shot. Love the way you filled the frame with him.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I was not able to access PDP since last Tuesday. I thought the site was down but see you have been posting all along. Whatever happened, I am so relieved that I have it back. Daily life without PDP is gray.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, love this pix. The kid does indeed look very fashionable, not like the scooterers here in San Francisco.
Eric, the company that makes this scooter SERIOUSLY ought to buy that photo from you for major advertising! Gorgeous, chic, and absolutely fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteLa Tour Eiffel at its finest! Eric, this truly is an incredible shot, absolutely LOVE the color. And the fact it has the most wondrous tower in it -- Priceless!
ReplyDeleteRimabirdgirl I too have had probs from the normal link on my blog. Luckily I have a Blogs I Follow link too and that one works to get here. The normal one says it's going to redirect. No idea why.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful refreshing picture of a young man whose clothes fit and he looks so neat. And the beautiful blue sky and ET in the background, astounding!!
ReplyDeleteI get so tired of seeing the young guys in there baggy pants and they have to keep pulling them up so they don't fall completely off.
Looks like an add, honestly. Even if you don't know how to use your camera Eric, you do miracles ;)
ReplyDeleteg'nite, it's been a loooong nite...
Such atmosphere! This photo could be remembered long after Hotel du Nord.
ReplyDeleteGood night, Guille, speaking of a hotel not so far from you.
Ahhhh - What a nice thing to return to! I'm just back from a camping trip to Yosemite - where I had no computer and so - sob - no daily fix of PDP. Missed you all!
ReplyDeleteI didn't lose the French Connection, though, since there were two French families camping with us. : )
I'm sorry I missed this Peace Monument when I was in Paris (though, I think I'm with you, Alexa, on the placement).
I hope all the fathers out there had a marvelous Father's Day!
Petrea - playing catch up - I saw L'Heure d'Ete also and liked it as well as you did. And last night I rented Claude Chabrol's A Woman Cut in Two and it didn't fail to please - not a great film but entertaining. Now I have to see if I can find Home - the YAB film that Eric told us about - hopefully on You Tube or something like it.
ReplyDeleteYour picture seems to capture the Paris of yesterday and today so eloquently.
ReplyDeleteThe composition is full of rectangles, from the boy's body echoing the Tower, to the negative space between his legs, arms and more. Brilliant!!!!
Hey, it's Guille's birthday! Bon anniversaire, ma Guille—hope you wake up well rested and ready to party!
ReplyDeleteEric - I am entirely new to your blog, but this photo is wonderful! The composition is definitely a winner! I love the contrast between the rider and the tower - the colour doesn't hurt either!
ReplyDeleteThis photo's a keeper! Dig the clouds. Happy B-Day to another in June. :-) Scooting along now...
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Guille !!
ReplyDeleteHope you're done with your exams soon so you can make a huge longlasting party !! Maybe sur les quais de Seine, where the picnic should have taken place !!!!
I will be coming to Paris next month, so its great to follow your blog and get an idea of the great sights to see!!
ReplyDeleteSuperb!
ReplyDeleteAt the end of my very long day, this is a sight for sore eyes. Merci, mon ami.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful photo - thanks again, Eric. Damn, I might finally have to replace the 2008 PDPicnic photo that's been on my desktop for more than a year.
ReplyDeleteDecisions, decisions.
Great photo -- and I love the illusion of the lad being as tall as the Eiffel Tower
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday dear Guille ;-D
ReplyDeleteWhat a blue sky and what a great shot. Oh Paris...
I too thought this was a grown man. He sure looks very mature on this photo - if it's a child.
Joyeux anniversaire, Guille.
ReplyDeleteI hope your exams are behind you, so you can celebrate both their end and your birthday!
Yes Tonton, an Air France ad is right. Perfect shot Eric, with the whimsy of summer all around. I agree he doesn't look like a kid. For me, a "kid" is a baby goat (at least that's what I was taught).
ReplyDeleteA BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GUILLE!!!!!
Great pic. Looking forward to see ET for myself. Flying out today.
ReplyDeleteI just told Biz (founder of Twitter) about PDP Eric! Well, he's in France at the moment so naturally he should know about you lol. Maybe he reads all his Tweets, who knows, mayyyyybe he'll drop by and leave a comment?
ReplyDeleteBon anniversaire, Guille! Birthday exams? Birthday cake seems infinitely preferable.
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous, Eric. I had no idea this was the kind of scooter you rode. Who's the young man taking it for a spin while managing to completely ignore you lying there? "Eric is lying on the ground with a camera, but I won't look surprised, not for a moment. Voici mon visage nonchalant. Pff."
So beautifully dressed for a spot of scootering!
ReplyDeleteThe figure in the foreground, looking into the distance, (at who knows what?) adds a human and a visual perspective to this picture. I could look at it for ages, but back to work.
ReplyDeleteLooks like congratulations all round today - birthday girl Guille and photo man Eric!
Happy Birthday, Guille!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone, that's so nice of you!! The photo's not lying, the weather is perfect today, like sunday and a bit windy to stay cool... I had a wonderful day. Exams are done tomo, so i'll definitely celebrate!!
ReplyDeleteAn Air France add, exactly! You can't see it anymore on tv, after the Paris-Rio crash, they took it off of it...
"like sunday"?! No, like sunny.
ReplyDeleteThere it is, the most perfect photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks for covering for me, Alexa! ET Suzy was on an airplane when this was posted, and unlike a certain person - *cough*phx-cdg*cough* - she does not browse the internet from 30,000 feet in the air.
Happy birthday to my favorite brat, Guille!
I have to agree with the others, that is one well dressed kid. The Eiffel Tower doesn't look too shabby either.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Guille.
not a whole to say other than its just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Michael! I don't like the word 'kid' actually, always prefer child or children. Seems too slang for such lovely little peeps lol. Whatever, though, this chap is no kid. lol.
ReplyDeleteBon anniversaire, Guille!
ReplyDeleteLynn, you are a major tweeter, aren't you?
LOL I have been today, Petrea! Lots of news to Tweet. I do enjoy it and it's such an instant form of information! I like it best for the news, you know, real news circulated within seconds. I'm a News junkie. Yes. Love it. There. :D Mind you, on a lighter note (sort of)I just had a horrid scare by a cat and I tweeted that. What? It was a major trauma for me......... :( lol....
ReplyDeleteOh my, yes, that IS news. I'll get off here and go Re tweet it, if I can figure out how!
ReplyDeleteHello Lynn,
ReplyDeleteI am one of your followers on Twitter. Your tweets are informative and funny. Yes and I am a news junkie too. Lol.
TweetsZoe
Oh thanks so much Zoe (love your hairdo) - nice to see you here and Hi!
ReplyDeleteIt's also great for quick keeping in touch with friends, but can be good for business too - today I had some possible work in from someone wanting local photos. Yes, oh yes, My Name Is Lynn and I'm a Twitterer. Quite a new one, actually :D lol.
Actually my name is LynnCherylEde. On Twitter. lol. Ok enough already about Twitter. The Biz boss didn't show up did he? Aw. :( Still, we have the lovely Blog Boss Eric, most importantly :)
ReplyDeleteI'll take Eric anyday. Lol
ReplyDeletelol me too!
ReplyDeleteGosh Lynn, I feel like I'm looking at a photo of myself again!
ReplyDeleteLove everything about it. You captured the photograph you wanted with the foreground and background married so perfectly.
ReplyDeletelol Suzy, we're not twinnies for nothing.
ReplyDeleteBabooshka isn't it perfect. Wonder if this man knows how famous he might become, if it's bought for an ad?
Bon Anniversaire, Guille!! : )
ReplyDeleteI love this, Eric. Nice!
ReplyDeleteLove this!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this picture! How I wish I was there right now!
ReplyDeletePerfect summer's day and a fascinating photo too Eric.
ReplyDeleteFor Michael:
"Mares eat oats and does eat oats
But little kids eat ivy."
Do you know this little ditty? My grandmother used to sing it to me.
