Theme day: under (re)construction

Shame on me, I almost forgot it's a theme day today... What theme? "Under construction". You can imagine that in a city like Paris, there are more reconstructions than actual constructions... Hence this very famous Carreau du Temple, a huge covered market in Le Marais, that was built in 1863 and was pretty dormant lately, until the Town hall decided to give it a new life (check this animation). I can't wait... Click here to see what is under construction throughout the world!

  1. Love the lines, curvy ones and the straight ones... thank you, too, for the video of the picnic! Nice to put faces and voices on friends from far away! Surprise seeing you, Eric! That was a great treat!

  2. This is really interesting. I'd love to see it when its done.

Eric, I don't know if others are having this trouble, but - apart from not being able to log on through blogger - now today with the new like button, the page doesn't scroll down but keeps reloading and saying error on page. Just wanted to let you know.

  3. The old buildings are the attraction in Paris, at least for me. Please keep as many as possible!

  6. A traditional roofed market like one can still find in middle-east with excellent bargains. The Carreau du Temple will meet all your expectations for second-hand. the idea of opening a space-time for a discussion of how artistic reconstruction.

  8. Wow, even the bones of this building are beautiful! Hopefully, the reconstruction will be just as grand.

Happy Wednesday and Happy June! :)

  10. Nice post, Eric.

Near us, in Dayton, Ohio, there is a glass building called an "arcade" that was built in the last century and is still being used after several reconstructions.

  12. Fantastique! I can't wait either. (Here in NYC, we would undoubtedly just knock down the beautiful old structure and put up something too tall and butt-ugly in its place.)

  13. Beautiful photo, Eric. I'm so happy to hear they're restoring the Carreau du Temple. We used to live two blocks away and I always admired this old building, and wondered how long it would be before something wonderful came of it! Preservationists couldn't save Les Halles in the 1970s, but I'm thankful for our contemporary efforts to save these old structures!

  15. I thought Les Halles till I read your text. How did I miss this when I lived in the Marais last summer (for a 9 days). Interesting post. Look forward to seeing it renovated. Happy THeme Day.
