Group Moonwalk in Paris

Michael Jackson must be happy if he sees what turmoil his death did to the world! There were several celebrations given in his honor last weekend in Paris including two "giant moonwalks". I went to one of them, rue Oberkampf, in the 11th and it was quite fun to see the happy faces. I took many photos of course, but I chose this one in the end. If you miss the motion, have a look at the videos taken by the zillion spectators! [Sorry for the late posting, I made a mistake setting the post date!]

  1. So there you are! We were getting worried about you. Did you really moonwalk? I wonder what MJ would think about the news coverage his death is receiving.

  2. I've heard that the dancer Jeffrey Daniel from Soul Train (and later the singing group Shalimar along with his dance partner Jody Watley)actually did the moonwalk first. Even tho' Wiki says he performed it with Shalimar, I could have sworn he did it while still on Soul Train. Faulty memory, maybe, but props should go to Jeffrey also.

  3. I am sure many were thinking that Michael's joke from yesterday had turned right !! Or that you might still be moonwalking somewhere...over the rainbow ....

  5. as always people are celebrated after they are gone. i was in high school when thriller came out and o' boy did we moon walk. i have had a chance to revisited some great memories with every mj song i hear. i also was lucky enough to see him in concert during the victory tour - it was one of those unforgetible concerts.
    eric - did you really miss the posting time or were you practicing your moon walk...lol ;-)

  7. I love seeing everyone out on the streets to show their admiration for Michael Jackson. Such a sad loss of talent in the world since he has gone.

  9. Glad you're okay, Eric. And I'm glad you chose a shot taken from the famous Tenin perspective! And that could be dangerous in a big crowd :~}
    People seem to want to celebrate MJ's talent rather than grieve his passing—at work on Friday, we spent half an hour or so playing his music and dancing.
    BTW, I got to (moon) walk across the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday with two wonderful bloggers, Bibi and Lily Hydrangea, whom I never would have met if I hadn't come here to PDP in the first place (and the same is true for them—look what you started, Eric! Thanks!)

  12. MJ's songs are so pandemic and timeless that I can't really feel sad when I'm thinking of his death.
    That sounds a bit weird as if I didn't think of him as someone alive these last months.
    Good choice. Thank you Eric.

  14. Not to take anything away from MJ, who's moonwalk became the symbol for an entire decade, but here's a French Connection I found when I looked up moonwalking on Wikipedia. Apparently, the famous mime Marcel Marceau used it for 40 years in his act, beginning in the 1940s. If you look at clips of MJ and Jeffry Daniel, you can see the mime influence in their dance moves. (I'll have to see if I can find a clip of MM moonwalking!) Vive la France; vive la danse!! ; )

  15. According to this report, the "backslide" can be traced to Cab Calloway
