Misplaced?

Last night, for a reason that I'll explain later, I went to a cocktail in the 17th arrondissement. I had the chance to visit a very nice building (don't be impatient, you'll see some of it!) and even to wander in some "secret rooms" that are still being redone. A few people were invited to join, including a few young, pretty ladies who looked like they were from another time. As you can see, just by looking at their shoes... (how's that for a "Tenin's perpective"?!). Have a good Easter weekend everyone - for those who celebrate Easter...

  1. That's a Tenin perspective for sure—but you asked these young ladies to pose for you, n'est-ce pas? It's a great shot.

  2. Yes, that's a Tenin perpective. I like these variegated dresses/skirts in the picture, they add coloration.
I hope we hear about this building you visited soon!

  3. like the way that the two outer set of legs are crossed, and the center set is not......you did pose them, no?

  5. Wow! What a great Tenin perspective! Great shot. But what did they think of you taking a picture of their feet?

I just have to say those shoes make me say "Ow!" The ones on the left are really cute though!

  6. This takes the Tenin perspective to a new (low) level. What were you swimming in?

I like the contrast in textures between the legs/clothing; and the construction works in the background.

  7. What I'd love to see would be a picture of you taking this picture, crawling around at carpet level - now that would be funny!

  8. It looks like a case of 'Happy Feet'.
Happy Easter to you too, Eric.

  9. No sweetheart, Eric Tenin, we are not from another time -- this is the shoe fashion of today; and it has been for the last year (da! -- or so). I thought -- no, I guess, you are not, looking at our shoes; but our legs? :)

    Great shoe photo!

  10. Happy Easter to you too!

Easter weekend is upon us and I am starting to feel the religious momentum building up around me -- doesn't bother me a bit, it is inspiring -- I think. So, tonight while making dinner I decided to watch "VeggieTales: An Easter Carol" released in 2004. This is the second Veggie Tales 3-D animated film that I have seen (I love 3-D graphics and animation) -- can't remember the title of the first Veggie Tales film I watched; but, I remember, I thought it was good. "Veggie Tales: An Easter Carol" is based on (you guessed it) Charles Dickens' story "A Christmas Carol".

History: VeggieTales is an American series of children's computer animated films featuring anthropomorphic vegetables developed by Big Idea. The films convey moral themes based on Christianity. VeggieTales was created by Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, who also provide many of the voices. Vischer was born in 1966 in Iowa, USA and Nawrocki was also American born.

Why my interest in Christianity-inspired art and Veganism? My brother Michael who is about 17 years younger than Vischeer, is one of, if not the first, musicians to start a Christian rock band. Also, during the 60's and 70's the Vegan philosophy was taking off in the US and being strongly supported by artists and hippies alike . So naturally, I am interested in Veggie Tails; and understand why these stories would be loved and appreciated by today's audiences.

But for all my abstract thinking, I cannot see how Christ being resurrected has anything to do with bunnies hiding eggs. It just isn't logically to me. I have tried to connect the dots but it is baffling. :-s It needs more research -- there is probably some long ago hidden secret why Christ being resurrected is connected to rabbits and eggs. I will keep you apprised but it might take many years before I find a reliable source in history regarding these events.

  11. The sick joke I use every year, stolen from Leon Russell on the "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" album:

Don't get hung up on Easter.

  12. Hee hee, Alexa.

Lois, there is a connection which I will now tell you in a completely convoluted way that isn't entirely accurate but will tell you what to research. Eggs were a pre-Christian symbol of springtime fertility (Celtic? Druid?)--something. The egg symbolism got co-opted by Christianity as it filtered north (into the British Isles ????) Anyway, it all got meshed together and there you have it. Easter eggs, bunnies (the little fertile fuzzballs) and Christ's resurrection.

Which has nothing to do with the photo, which I love. But I had to stop looking at the Sartorialist because of these shoes. Doesn't he realize that we women over 34-er, 44-er, whatever, would like to see some stylish flats?

  13. Alexa, I love your Easter Joke! And I agree with your 1st comment: I hope Eric asked the ladies for this photo! Otherwise...

  14. If you didn't ask for the poses, Eric, the leg-crossing is quite amazing synchronicity!

    Alexa, hee hee!!

  15. Oh dear. Doesn't the poor creature in the centre realise that standing cross-legged is absolutely 'de rigueur' this season.
DARLING, IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO HAVE THE SHOES - YOU MUST MATCH THEM WITH THE CORRECT WAY OF STANDING.
Frankly my dear, I doubt you will receive many more invites to fashionable gatherings such as this if you insist on standing normally.
I just KNOW that our dear Eric had his legs crossed when he took this shot.

On the other hand, perhaps the ladies toilets are still under construction.

Loved your little Easter Bunny Funny Alexa!

  17. OK, I'm laughing out loud now!

Well, no I did not ask them to pose. This is a 100% pure stolen photo...

(And the toilets were perfectly OK Drummond!)

  21. Ha ha ha Drummond :))) So smart. So witty. So you!!! Ahh I'm curious to see me with these kinds of shoes. For sure, if it happened I'd do my best to match them with the correct attitude ;) That would make me laugh out loud too, anyway!

Love your shot Eric and wonder which building you were in to meet such high-standing ladies! But best stayed a bit far from her, instead of what you might have got some trouble... with the picture :)

  23. @Alexa, That's a cute joke.

@Petrea, Merci for the history of the Easter eggs and bunnies. Wikipedia said something similar. They said the tradition came from Alsace, where it was first recorded in the 1600s.

  25. Another time? No, Eric, these are the shoes they're making lately.

I usually don't care for fashion, but from a purely aesthetical viewpoint, I find this style of shoes absolutely FABULOUS. but of course, I'm glad I dont have to walk in them. :)
