Classic view

It's been a while since I've shown you a classic Paris view, so here is one... I took it from the inside of Le Jardin des Tuileries, facing the Place de la Concorde. This statue was made by Antoine Coysevox in 1699, it shows Mercury on Pegasus. And let me disclose a little secret: this one is only a cast; the real one is in Le Louvre...

  2. Beautiful. It looks as if Mercury and Pegasus are about to head off into the clouds.

  3. Thank you. I viewed this from my home in Minnesota and was instantly transported to Paris. Sadly, reality has me back in MN and the weather is starting to cool. Still a great place to be. ; )

  5. I love this shot, Eric;Classic Paris. I took it myself a few months ago when I was going to the Orangerie for the Paul Klee exhibit. But yours is much better--so powerful with the clouds. And of course I didn't know what I was taking. Thanks for the info!

  6. When I first looked at this classic shot of classic Paris, I did wonder if this was the real one or is it the one in the Louvre. But of course they'd never leave the original out to face the elements—et les salles pigeons!

  7. Oh, fer chrissake, Eric. I'm at a conference in a small city in southwest MN and it's pouring rain and you have to show me a sunny Jardin des Tuilleries. You're killing me.

At least I had a very nice Pinot Noir at the hotel bar, even if it was from California.

  9. OH how I just love this view. I miss Paris SO much. I haven't been there for a year now - because I haven't been well. I have been in hospital for the past month now and finally last night I got my computer and a mobile network out here. I have been looking at all the PDP posts and coments I've missed ever since and I just can't get enough of it.
I have missed all you guys for such a long time.

  11. Oh, pretty! I love the sky and curvature, too. I'm late visiting everyone today, so thanks for rounding off my day in a beautiful way, Eric.

Bettina, I hope you're feeling better!

  12. Great! Paris won´t let us go through life without admiring beautiful art. I love it that they always put on casts while taking care of the real ones.

  14. Great shot, Eric! (And good to have you back, Bettina!!) I love the clouds in this one, like the statue is poised to jump right into them and fly away. Lovely.

  15. Hey there, Pont Girl!! Missed you! Bettina - so sorry you've been under the weather. Isn't PDP a breath of fresh air? It helped keep me going while I was under the gun the last couple months, too. Eric, your photos are a tonic for so many of us -- merci!

  16. Oh you got the whole shebang in there, ET and the obelisque. At least you can see Mercury in this photo. If you go inside the Louvre to see the real deal, there will be a hundred tourists having their photos made in front of it. (My pet peeve)

  18. @Craig "Sadly, reality has me back in MN and the weather is starting to cool." Same here actually... But hopefully less than in Minnesota!

@ET Suzy! Hey, nice to see you here!

@Cathy "And of course I didn't know what I was taking. Thanks for the info!" I had to search for quite some time to find the info I must say...

@Alexa "—et les salles pigeons!" LOL. I had to rub off a few of them I must confess...

@Jeff "At least I had a very nice Pinot Noir at the hotel bar, even if it was from California." See, life is not that hard after all...

@Martin "a hundred years from now students in art classes will be quizzed on the classic and natural Tenin perspective:)" PDP in school books?! Er... I don't think so ;-)

@Bettina "I have missed all you guys for such a long time." We did too. Sorry to hear this. I hope you're up and well now. I really feel sorry for you now.

@Valery (well Irredento Urbanita!) " Only in Paris you can get views like this." I'm sure - I know! you do too in Barcelona ;-)

  19. Eric, what a marvelous photo. I love the way you've framed the statue with the distant pillars and the ET. The photo makes me wonder if you go out of your way to find these treasures for us or if you just happen to walk past these glorious views. It must be the latter, you live in Paris after all.

Bettina, I hope you're feeling better. Glad you're back.

Monnica, is that you, Pont Girl? At last!
