Sparkling water fountain

It's been a while since I've been willing to show you this. This, ladies and gentlemen is a public fountain, and like all public foutains it gives water, except that this one sparkles... Don't go thinking it dispenses fancy sparkling water like Badoit or San Pellegrino, but just Paris tap water in which they put gas. Only in France? No, not really, apparently the idea comes from Italy where it's pretty common! Shame they don't plan to extend this to our taps... Like they thought it would happen back in 1957 (see this funny little video, especially at 1:05 minute).

  1. How very convenient, Eric! What WILL they think of next? I was just talking with friends who are headed for India, and they said the way to be sure you're not drinking tap water that's been bottled is to drink fizzy water. Wonder if anyone has imported this there!

  3. Well, Suzy, you must admit that "eau de Paris" sounds ok.

  4. Eau de Paris ewwwwww.... I'd be careful what I ask for, Jeff ;)

Some years back, some dude decided to money selling empty little sardines tins (without the fish, of course) on which it said "air de Paris" now that was pretty clever. I saw one on eBay recently and almost got it, just for the laugh.

Eau de Paris, on the other hand, hmmmm.... careful what you ask for ;)

  5. Oooooh, the video!!!!! Hahahaha!!!

OMG "la carte perforéee ?!!!" ... we should be using punched cards by... year 2000?!!!! ha!!!! MDR!!! Hardly!! ;)

And they forgot to dress the woman a little more modern. She looks straight out of the 50's.

That is too funny. Thank you very much for posting this clip, it absolutely made my day. :D

  6. Oh, I think that video was made way back when - maybe the '60's? And it predicted some conveniences we already have. Although I agree the punch cards were pretty funny. I remember when they were the height of modern and new. Thanks Eric, for the video and the photo of the sparkling water fountain.

  7. Great idea and great post Eric.
I'm feeling more tap water right now than sparkling water but this is probably only a matter of angle.

And with PDP all life slices are always sparkling. So ... :o) ooooooooo

Love the sparkling water though, and some fountains with champagne would be great too, lol.

  9. Yeah, I read about this - in the Jardin de Reuilly isn't it? Did you taste it? Is it any good? Not Perrier or Badoit, I suppose but interesting! What are the photo ops like - should I head out that way do you reckon? Anyway, cheers!

  10. Yes, it's in Le Jardin de Reuilly Sab. The photo ops - of the fountain - are next to nil! I struggled to think of one!
And, no, I did not even taste it, now that you make mu think of it!

  13. Mmm....the Hostess Trolley on a Trolley. Never quite caught on.

I think I'd like to see what's inside this fountain before I tried some. A little man with a bicycle pump and a bucket of water perhaps?

  14. Besides the music, I think the weirdest thing about the video was that the women still do all the housework. But that's just me...

  17. That video was EXCELLENT. I, for one, always cook and clean in my corset, ironed dress, heels, and pearls.
(Actually I just almost set my kitchen on fire cooking two dishes of tarte tatin, and then dropped one of them on the floor...)
Good thing I'm not living in the '50s; I'd probably have trouble with the punch cards. ;)
