Here is a view of La Seine (the river that runs through Paris) that you probably have never seen. I took it from a Tower at La Défense, the Business district of Paris. Technically it is not really Paris (the right bank that you can see in this photo belongs to Neuilly, a little suburb right outside Paris), but it's really next to it. FYI, according to Wikipedia the name Seine comes from Sequana, which, as you all know is Latin for Sicauna(!) which apparently means "sacred river". It is 777 km (486 miles) long.

Hello, new desktop background. My name is Suzy. I do hope you'll stay for tea.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and great information about the history of the name for the Seine. I've been to Neuilly recently. This is a new view for me. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eric. I lived in Neuilly and loved it. I too have made this my new screen background. Woot!!
ReplyDeleteDifferent view . Still so nice .
ReplyDeleteSilly me, I thought it was a derivation of Secaucus! Didn't they make a movie about the river a long time ago -- "The Secaucus Seine"? ;-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, this is another wonderful shot of the river and one I will be putting in my slideshow as well. Merci, Eric, autre foix
Gorgeous photo!!
ReplyDeleteOoooh—what a view! We're so lucky that you take these shots for us. When I first got to Paris (back when), I lived in the 16th very near to Neuilly. It was sooo quiet—I moved to St. Germain at the first opportunity. :~}
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, I've never seen this view. Magnificent.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! The bridges are one of my favorite parts of Paris. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I looked like I jumped in a river today, after getting caught in the rain at lunch. Soggy here in MA lately! :-p
What a magnificent view. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if those early Parisi's knew what a great angle they left you for such a heartstopping photo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a post-card-worthy view! Thanks also for the information about la Seine ... I never knew the derivation!
ReplyDeleteThis image really sets me to dreaming...
ReplyDeleteSacred river...of course!
OH MY what a great view.
ReplyDeleteTh is photo sure is a desktop background candidate - but I still have the photo Eric shot from an airplane on my desktop, and I can't really make myself change it since it's sich a great map as well.
But maybe I should be bold and try this one ?
Sorry about all the typos
ReplyDeleteAmazing view!! Such a gorgeous city!!!
ReplyDeletePlease, please, take me back to Paris. What a great shot of the Seine with all of its neat bridges. I loved reading about its history. Your shot is just perfect in my book. I love it....gorgeous Paris.

Amazing view and wonderful picture !
ReplyDeleteThat's a great view, Eric ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, Pont de Levallois, n'est-ce pas? The long island on the right is Ille de la Grande Jatte, where Seurat painted his famous painting. The park is still there: I walked through it in June. There is an interpretive sign about Seurat's painting, very near the bridge.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. You are in La Defense often these days. Keeping busy...??
Besides Eric's magnificent pictures and information, I love the info we get from other bloggers, like Jeff.
ReplyDelete@Jeff. yes thank you Jeff. you are very right. Bravo. And yes I spend a lot of time @ la Défense these days... I'll explain why some day ;-)
ReplyDeletegreat picture! I love it (maybe because it is not "déjà vu")
ReplyDeletevery special indeed - simply breathtaking.... I shall upload it on Hero Husband's laptop as a desktop background for a few days (before I upload him another photo I have taken.... - I change them frequently for him as a THANK YOU for lending me his oldie....)
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU ERIC, this is just really, really special. We have a friend in Neuilly and I bet not even HE has seen this view....
And I LOVE all the additional bits of info you seed out with your fab shots. You have quickly become unmissable and I search you out even with hardly any chance to work on a computer these days.
