A night at Le Lido

If you came to Paris you probably heard of Le Lido. Le Lido is a cabaret located on the Champs Elysées, it was created in 1946 and starred people like Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker and more recently Elton John. But more than anything, it is known for its Bluebell girls - that is stunning dancers with endless legs ;-) - a female dance crew that was created by British dancer Margaret Kelly (you have to watch this clip from the archives of CBC-TV). In this photo you have two samples of Bluebell girls (I'm sorry I cannot show their face) that I photographed during a promotional event.

  1. Why cant you show their faces? Are they very plain?

  2. I remember the BBC series about the girls (and Margaret Kelly) - brilliant! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0324697/

  3. Personally, I like just seeing the silhouette of the one dancer and only the back of the other. It adds to the mystery of the photo. The green feather right there to the side of them really sets off the whole shot for me. I cannot imagine how they dance and hold up all of the paraphernalia on their heads. Amazing!

  4. OK, you could not show us their faces, but you could have at least shown us those famous legs! (theirs, not yours, Eric)
An acquaintance of mine is married to a former Bluebell Girl - the face may be older but the legs are still long.

  5. LoL Drummond!
A night at Le Lido! wow!
Never seen the show so far. I think that is something to see. These women are not only beautiful, they are generous, and what to say about their talent. They work a lot and deserve to be admired. Their faces are almost in my eyes.
Excellent link to the archives of the CBC-TV, BTW.

  6. They must have strong necks to wear those brilliant collars.

  7. I love black and white! Although I can honestly say I've never worn feathers, these are so interesting. And the necklaces are amazing. Fun!

  8. You don't have to see their faces to know they're beautiful—all Bluebell Girls are! (Though I've known a couple and they do look quite different without all their bling and feathers!) I think this shot is perfect, Eric—and, my, how you do get around!
