You like this suit? Don't you think the cape adds a cool note to it? Well, take a closer look (click in the photo, if you need a larger view)... Yes, this white silky material is... plastic from garbage bags! Don't go thinking it's the latest fashion in Paris, or that the crisis struck us so bad in France that we have no money left for clothing! It's just a cool idea people from Ikks (a French clothing store chain) had during the soldes (sales) period. More in the making of.

Bag dress! Euro Trash!

A nice dress indeed, good enough to wear to an inauguration! At least it's not made of plastic.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Eric.
It is plastic. It should be made from paper!
ReplyDeleteAt first glance it's very convincing it's a regular dress just very sheer fabric. But on close inpection you can tell indeed it's plastic.
ReplyDeleteI like though the color contrast:)
The white against the gray background & the lights below.
I saw something like this one time on this show we have here in America called.Project Runway they had this one challenge where they had to make a garment out of recylcled materials. The end result was pretty interesting.
yikes, cali—you do have speedy digit!
ReplyDeleteNot so sure I'd wear such a dress, but interesting way to recycle.
Eric -- It's your birthday? Bonne anniversaire! How are you celebrating?
How come I can never tie my garbage bag clothes like that? I do prefer the ones with the built in drawstring and the scented smell. After a rough day at the office, I feel so refreshed in my scented bags that I'm ready for an evening out. And the built in fringe benefit... after dining, no reason to ask for what we Americans call "the doggie bag."
ReplyDelete;-)
Eric...if it is your B-Day, Rock on my man and have a great evening out on the town. Cheers and many more!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Eric
Happy Birthday to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hip Hip.............
For Jeff...you mentioned Swift's dunces in yesterday's post. Have you read John Kennedy Toole's hilarious "A Confederacy of Dunces"? There's only one Ignatius J. Reilly, and thank god for that. He certainly is memorable sloth, and his search for a job and his desire to impress Myrna "The Minx" are rather unfogettable. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWow....
ReplyDeletea new President.....an outfit made from plastic and Eric's birthday! Can't get any better than this ;-)
Happy birthday, Eric.
ReplyDeleteCould be an illustration of what you answered once to Lynn : "A lady with clothes - What for LOL?".
Which I found funny at the time!
Joyeux Anniversaire cher Eric!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is nice but for this occasion, the celebration of your birthday, I'd wear a fancier dress.
Maybe even wear something red carpet worth (I know Lynn is with me on this one, she loves to get all dolled up as much as I)
It is a très special date after all!!!!!
Happy Birthday dear Eric!
ReplyDeleteLove the outfits in "the making of" too. Good to wear in the rain, sorry, I couldn't resist!
This designer is an original.
Is it really your birthday, Eric? Joyeux Anniversaire! Alexa, how did you know?
ReplyDeleteI'll dress up. I don't know how to tie my garbage bag this way, but perhaps I can do something with my sheet. ;)
Happiest of Birthdays, Eric!! I hope you have a wonderful day and an even better year this year!
ReplyDeleteI actually like the suit (from a distance), but don't you think it would get a little hot and sticky? But a very inventive idea!
I think some people (including mannekins) look good in anything. Didn't know it was your b'day - have a joyous one! We're drinking champagne today in celebration - we'll toast your good health as well.
ReplyDeleteBon Anniversaire, Eric. Well, well, another day younger.
ReplyDeleteColtrane: Yes, Ignatius J. Reilly is one of my favorite literary characters. A very touching story about the author, too.
And I know what you mean about those garbage bag clothes. They never hang right on me, either. I guess I need to spend more to get the good ones.
Hippo Birdie Two Ewe, Eric!! And many more! May you have a wonderful year full of peace and happiness(and rest!). You deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI was completely fooled by the dress. It looks very nice in the lighting they've given it. I wonder if it gets static-y though! ; }
Fried Green Tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Eric! You make 23 look good!
Just a quick pop in to say Bonne Anniversaire a toi, bonne anniversaire a toi....etc! With much love Eric xxxx
ReplyDeleteI'll be back tomorrow as I haven't read the comments but I'm sooo tired i'm off to bed. After I've looked under the sink in the cupboard for my white binbags! Looks like fun.
Bonne nuit et anniversaire! x
It's your birthday, Eric? Awww...shoot... Obama stole your big day! ;)
ReplyDeleteAs to the plastic dress, it's cute and everything but definitely not green at all!
Happy Birthday, Monsieur Eric!
ReplyDeleteColtrane Lives: You make me laugh! (In a good way, of course.)
Merci Shell Sherree (dig your name...and your drawings too!). Welcome to PDP!
ReplyDeletepetrea -- our GF, from cali, said so! (& it's on facebook).
ReplyDeleteEric -- this reminds me of my old friend Amanda and the Beatles song about "Polythene Pam."
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting dress -- and great photo!
ReplyDeleteAND happy birthday!
Maybe some time Coltrane could model his "doggie bag" for us :>)
Ohh..Minou...Jump into the Poubelle robe so we can head out for dinner!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy B'Day Eric....is Champagne in order???
Joyeux Anniversaire Eric! Now I know exactly what to buy you for a gift. But on this special day, I'm sure all you need is your birthday suit to parade around Paris with. Now THAT would make an interesting Paris Daily Photo!
ReplyDeleteThese dresses are really cool, but I credit the window designers who came up with the idea. Wish I was as creative.
Nice :)
ReplyDeleteI guess that is a good way of putting to use all the plastic they accumulate from their incoming shipments.
From a distance it looks like silk, but I'm glad though this is not a fashion.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Eric and have a very nice day with friends and family ;o)
Coltrane Lives ... Thank you {Blush}.
ReplyDeleteIt looks tres chic!
ReplyDeleteWhat's next...underwear?? (kinda sticky...)
Bonne anniversaire!!!
Bon anniversaire, Eric ;-)
ReplyDeleteMonica did you mean me or PHx? For me, it seems a long time since I dolled myself up!! It is fun though. I like the style of this binbag confection; those creases and folds would hide a multitude of sins!
ReplyDeleteCoucou Eric, bonne anniversaire a toi! x
Bonne Anniversaire, Eric!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy B. day Eric!!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit gives Bag Lady a good name.
Years ago in Miami, we had a trashdance to coinside with the King Mango Strut--a ripoff of the Pasadena Doo Da parade(ever been to that, Petra?)
We all dressed in trashbag outfits and one person I can remember was dressed as Whitetrash.
I think this is a great idea to be resurected as a party for our Ressionista times.
Make sure you look at "the making of" to view the outfits in the other windows.
That's funny PHX! I can just see you!
ReplyDeleteEric, I propose you change the title of your post to "Euro Trash"... What do you think?
Ah! I just rememered the other song:
ReplyDelete"People dressed in plastic bags
Directing traffic.
Some kind of fashion.
Shoo doo bee,
Shattered, shattered."

PHX, we just had the Doo Dah Parade last Sunday. It's the unconventional answer to the conventional Rose Parade. I had a lousy vantage point but my friend Kathy got some good pictures.
ReplyDeleteWow, Petra, I had no idea, as I remember it being in December in years past.I just looked at your link and laughed at Yes Oui Can. As I said we ripped off the DOO Dah in MIA and so did Washington D.C. Theirs is called the Gross National Parade. Oh, we wacky Americans.
ReplyDeleteWe Americans need these types of wacky parades and events to keep us distracted while our government pisses off the rest of the world.
ReplyDeleteOh, wait, that ended on Monday. :D
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ERIC!!!
Hello!!! FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best!!!
of course you are the best!!!
Besos Mexicanos
Lau
JOYEUX ANNIVERSAIRE, ERIC!!!!
ReplyDeleteBonne Anniversaire, Eric!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know that no matter how bad the economy gets, I'll always have something to wear. Plastique chic!
He, is that a transparent dress?! hm! I like the idea. ;)
ReplyDeleteBack from DisneyLand Paris, tough day, not too late to wish you a Happy Bday Eric!
Doo Dah is usually around Thanksgiving but had to be rescheduled this year. I don't know why.
ReplyDeletehe he great idea Michael! Come on, Eric, get into that cupboard, pull out some binbags and fashion yourself some trunks. Why not? We shall expect you in plastic at midnight.
ReplyDeleteGuille: Dare you!
Plastic is not green at all! Shame on them! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, shoot, I already commented on that thread. Duh. Definitely not with it, today!
ReplyDeletewell,Tomate, maybe next year someone will make a eurotrash outfit in paper...I'd personally prefer a chic bon marche paperbag dress as opposed to BHV..
ReplyDeleteEric in his birthday suit with trunks of plastic. I feel a song coming on...
ReplyDeleteHabillée comme un sac... en quelque sorte...
ReplyDeleteJoyeux anniversaire.
Loic
Are you trashing fashion, Eric?
ReplyDeleteCould they be the biodegradable trash bags, Tomate?
ReplyDeleteI know. I know.
Well I do believe in recycling.
