Street Fishing!

Add "ing" to any English word (dancing (a night-club), lifting (a facelift), teasing (a marketing operation to get attention)...) and put it in the middle of a French sentence and you'll start a trend! I just found a new one; it's called Street Fishing and, according to an article I just read, it's a new trend... Frankly there have been fishermen along the Seine fror quite some time, but if "they" say it's a new trend, well why not?! FYI, street fishing is what the participants in the picnic may do this Saturday as I finally decided it would take place at the usual location. See more, here.

  1. Learning all of this new vocabulary and trending makes blogging all worthwhile.

"ing....ing" I heard it first here on Paris Daily Photo!

  4. A few years ago I recall reading about the return of Atlantic salmon to the Seine. Apparently the purification efforts have worked and fishing has become one popular urban sport. We're not talking "eating" the fish caught though--it's catch and release. Truly, the Seine is much different today than those yesterdays when the sewers belched into the famed river. I wonder if Alexa has cast a line into NYC's East River--I hear it's popular there, too. ;-) As to your photo, I suppose I should say, "Nice catch, Eric!"

  5. Yes, please...I certainly hope they aren't eating anything they catch here...you can't even eat anything you catch in the San Francisco Bay and that water is brackish which is a mix of salt and fresh water.

  6. Oh yes...catch & release for certain! The water is beautiful....but not clean enough for eating the inhabitants!!!!

Oh how I wish I could be at the Picnic....but I am in the States right now and will be on a boat for Memorial Day Weekend! I was in Paris at this time the last two years...but it was before a fellow Parisian friend turned me on to PDP.....Zut Alors!!! For sure I will be there next year! Enjoy!

  7. Hummm, bad boy was yesterday and street fishing is today. I know I would rather eat fois GRAS instead of duck liver , but do things sound more exotic, sexy or whatever in English, to the French?

  8. Love this photo (and the vocab lesson), but I'm thinking that the Académie Français would not be pleased with "le fishing." I was stunned to learn (at least 40 years ago) that if I wanted to buy shampoo, I should ask for "le shampooing (pronounced "le shomp-wang"). Even then it bothered me—surely there's a word that is actually en français!

  9. Street Fishing is a very popular and productive fishing spot. A fishing area near one of three bridges bringing people in and out of Northville. I like to do Street Fishing.

  10. My son would LOVE this post. He discovered fishing last year, and as an 8 year old, saved up money for a pole and gear. He goes as often as we let him. :) He would enjoy a little "street fishing" in Paris.

  11. Un retour à la source, à la Seine... Wonderful weather, at the moment.
I like the blue paint in the background but would not eat anything coming from these fishers... lol. Not eatable. Non comestible... Only a hobby. For them. Not for me! ;)
