Arts et Métiers Statue of Liberty

Thursday evening I attended an event at the Arts et Métiers museum, a great museum I already mentioned several times here, where they have all these cool inventions on display (the first "car", the first telephones, cameras...) including mock-ups and photographs of the Statue of Liberty (which you probably know, was made by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi in France and given as gift of France to the US on July 4th, 1884. Recently the photographs have been restored, that is why the organized this event that the US Ambassador to France attended. See more photos here.

  1. I am so happy that we have two Statues of Liberty -- one on land and one at sea. She is so beautiful -- and so is your photo Eric.

  2. GREAT!!
Impressive photo of your post at the first glance and I love also the making of display.
The Statue of Liberty would be my monument if I had to choose one ;) I love her as much as the E.T so that says something, I can tell you.
And yes, le musée des arts et métiers is a superb one. I'm sharing your opinion once again :)
    Thank you.

  4. Beautiful composition, Eric. I love seeing the smaller version of this Lady on the Île des Cygnes also! ^_^

  5. I read the article about it in the New York Times earlier today. A Frenchman noticed that the statue of Liberty in the museum was an original mold! He proposed making 12 reproductions (the legal amount allowed by the French gov't) and allowing the museum to keep the first one made.

A Swiss person bought one for his home for over 1,000,000.

I am excited for you, Eric, that you got to be there last night!

  8. There was also one of these mock-ups on the top of a building on the upper west side across the street from Lincoln Center. I don't know what happened to it.

  10. Ah, le musee du CNAM! Je l'adore celui là! Pas trop grand, pas trop de monde (par rapport aux endroits comme le Louvre) et plein de trucs interessants à voir! On s'amuse comme des petits fous la dedans!

    One of my favorites!

Un jour, tu devrais nous montrer le Palais de la Decouverte, ou mieux encore, le nouveau musee des sciences qu'ils ont construit en banlieue... zut, j'oublie son nom maintenant!
