Paris pollution

Pollution is a topic I rarely talk about, or it's generally not too much of a concern in Paris, except when it's hot and there is absolutely no wind, like yesterday (Monday). Airparif is the office that controls the air in Paris and, well at the moment, the various indexes (don't ask me too much about them, it's pretty complicated) that they produce don't look too good. Parisians should avoid going out, running exercising... You can see it in this photo I suppose, which is a little yellow and foggy... I've seen worse though! But God was it hot...

  1. Still beautiful - even with smog! Thanks for braving the heat and taking this shot, Eric - very much appreciated. Stay cool!

  2. I see that tomorrow the high in Paris will be 66 degrees fahrenheit (19 degrees centigrade). Quite a drop!

  3. That yellow and foggy thing -- they call "haze" in Hollywood. They really try to stay away from the word "smog". LOL They have smog alerts in LA where they tell parents not to let their children play outside. It really hurts your lungs when trying to breath if you are running and playing -- Ouch!. (As you probably guessed, I lived in Hollywood as a child.) Paris has it pretty good -- I would say.

  8. Breathe carefully! I've never lived in a place with air problems, so to go to a large city on a clear sunny day and take pictures that looked like this when they returned was very surprising. My first view of *whispers* "smog".

Enjoy the summer day! (at least for me, high today of 63F and rainy. pththhbb)

  9. I'm dying!! Help LOL! Gee, today seems worse than yesterday... I closed all curtains, turned on the fan, try to move as little as possible, even typing makes me sweat (I overdo it? Yeah, OK, a little LOL!)

  10. You know what ? To the animal I am, the A/C acts in an unusual way : it cuts me from my usual marks... Knowing you in the heat while I'm.. well I'm almost freezing (sorry) ... makes me feel disoriented... LOL... I think today is a little less hot than yesterday : outside ! BUT inside houses and buildings, it's hotter... This morning, at home, I felt a bit like you described...
The heat is leaving Paris this evening, so don't be too hard with yourself at work and take good ice cream in the meanwhile ;)
The "orange sanguine" flavor at Berthillon's is to dying for when it's HOT... ok many many others too. Have I helped you a little little bit, Eric ? well not that much but the fan will probably do it better than me ;s

  12. Eric, unfortunately this is one fan who can't help.
    Stay cool.

Lois, re the reluctance to use the 's' word, how true, but
'A Smoggy Day In London Town'
    or
    'Play Smoggy For Me'
    or
    'Purple Smog'
just don't have the same ring to them. :)

  13. Well, it's a beautiful shot all the same. I can't stand air-conditioning, but there are definitely times when it seems like the best invention ever—right, Eric? Drink lots of water!

@Valery "So you can't practise sports? That's the worst of all." It's OK, I'll survive LOL!

  15. Oooh my goodness, I just converted the C to F(I don't know the C degrees very well) and realized how hot, hot, hot it is there!!! That's 100 deg F, right? Isn't that super-abnormal for France? I remember a couple years ago there were terrible results, but I haven't heard of anything like that now. I hope all's well with everyone there. I'm glad it will cool soon.
