We're all familiar with city marathons. But what if you're now a running champion and still want to discover Paris "with your feet", with a bunch of other people? Simple: you take part in the GDF Suez (Gaz de France - Suez) walk, that - as I only found out today - has been taking place in Paris for four years now. More than 22 000 people took part in it this morning, and since they passed right by my home, I only had to walk a few blocks to take this photo! Clever: you could follow their progression, live, in this map (go to the bottom of the page).

Giant walk through Paris

Now THAT would suit me down to the ground!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to take this walk but perhaps with not quite so many companions.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great shot, Eric. So much action here, with everyone in mid-stride. They all look like they're in a big hurry—and I love the kid on the scooter!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like fun! And I bet those folks are just chattering away having a great time. Cool!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great day for a walk -wish I could have joined in.
ReplyDeleteLove the boy on scooter, too. Noticed a few people spotted you taking their picture.
ReplyDeleteI'd be too slow for these people. I'm more of a wanderer. My daughter would be the one on the scooter. Great capture Eric.
ReplyDeleteThat looks fun! I'm not much of a runner, but I can walk; this might be just the thing for me! :)
ReplyDeleteNice shot, Eric. Love the energy.
Eric, you share the most interesting things going on in Paris!! You give us a more well-rounded view of the City of Lights. Merci beaucoup:) I am also most pleased to see all those tennis-shoe wearers! I had heard/read that the French poke fun of us Americans when we visit because they can always spot us in our tennis shoes, ie., we are sloppy dressers. But when one is walking miles and miles each day, the feet must be comfortable:)
ReplyDeleteI walked so much in Paris and I never felt tired. My eyes were so happy.

They resemble a gallery of spectators at a golf tournament...very intent in their white caps! I prefer my Doc Martin wing tips to trainers...they are more comfortable and much more fashionable for Paris!
ReplyDeleteWow! It started right outside of my "old" neighborhood! I can almost see the Lounge Bar at the top of Henri IV Boulevard in the picture in the link!
ReplyDeletePardon an anglophone's ignorance - does the Suez in the name of the big gas company, GDFSuez, refer to the Suez canal, or is it a different form of the mot suer?
@Jeff. Yes, it was the company that Ferdinand de Lesseps (the one that made the canal) started.
ReplyDeletebut that was a long time ago, now it's been acquired by Gaz de France.

That route looks wonderful. I think I'll keep that route map on hand and try that walk on my own when next in Paris. . .which I'm considering may be this October. I hope! Trying to swing it with work and finances. Cross your fingers with me :-).
