Return to the 40's

I came across these two young ladies in the 3rd arroundissement and for a moment I thought I was travelling in time! They really looked like they just came out of a movie from the 40's or something. I looked up on the web and there is apparently such a fashion trend (look at this article in Elle), but it's actually the first evidence I witnessed! I'm not sure it's really suitable for a sunny day, but who am I to judge? ;-)

  1. You maybe on to something, Eric as I have seen a few turban headed women around Paris. I won't be going in that fashion direction, as they can go to Elle for theirs.

  2. Where are the stockings with the seam down the middle?

  3. I j'adore the style of the 40's! The hair, clothes, hats, and shoes. I sometimes wonder if I didn't live in the 40's in another life.

Very stylish, although I'm not to crazy about the lady's outfit on the left? Not to sure about it>

  4. Anonymous got here before me! I was going to say it can't be the 40s because the women aren't wearing nylons with a dark seam in the back.

  5. I especially like the look on the right. It works with the boots!

  6. Like! Like!! Hehehehe... this might encourage laziness on our part, though and you may never again get a proper comment from some of us ;)

    Thanks for this, Eric!

Ironically, I couldn't see the FB buttons on my Android phone yesterday. I shall try NOT to read into it ;)

  7. Depending on the fabric and the undergarment worn, these outfits could quite cool to wear even in hot weather...the 40's and the 80's(music and freestyle)...old skool forever!

  8. I have always admired 1940's fashion. It is worthless to discuss fashion of the forties without first understanding the tremendous. In the 1940's, it was not the happiest decade.

  9. In the end, when all's said and done, and irrespective of all who have gone before... who gives a &@!* what they are wearing! Well ok, a nicely turned heel never went amiss, I'll give you that, but still... a miss is a miss for most of us miserably guys, and boot or a heel or a bit of skirt isn't going to change that too much.
I'd like to have seen if someone had been watching you watching them as you took this shot, Eric... you might have been taken for a dirty old me, which of course, you most certainly... oh darn it! My ink has run out, and I was virtually finished ;~S

  10. I have to say the 40's were not my favorite fashion period, as I much prefer the 50's! Cute dresses with lots of swing in the skirt. Yep, time to bring out my summer wear! (almost, it's still fairly cool here for a few more weeks)

I do like the young lady on the right, but the olive green on the left is not my style. Hope they both had fun wearing what they did though!

  11. Oh and let's not forget the music of the era either? Maybe they're heading to an Andrews Sisters theme party?

  13. I only just watched the picnic video. So great to see all of you having a wonderful time together. Next year I'll be there again, for sure ;o)

  15. Cool shot, Eric, but the shoes are all wrong for a return to Dior's New Look. When I was there in March, I did see at least one young woman wearing those seamed stockings—but she was wearing them with shorts!

  16. Even more interesting is that they are carrying identical purses!
