Paris in the 50's?

No, it's not Paris in the 50's, it's Paris in the 2010's! And though when I took this photo it really made me think of it. Something about the color probably - that I did not modify, before you say it! The funny part is that Les Champs Elysées has not changed much since then - have a look at this site, and this photo in particular. Or even Parisavant.com, that I already mentioned here and where you can see the same locations taken from the same angle with a 50 or 60 year difference.

  7. Absolutely lovely. But however did you take such an amazing photo, Eric? With peril to your life? It looks as if you were standing in the middle of the street.

LOVE the color, the almost sepia tones of this shot. Gorgeous.

  8. All the photos mentioned in your post and taken at different times are really interesting. You're right, Les Champs Elysees doesn't appear to have changed much.

I am reading a book by David McCullough, The Greater Journey about famous Americans who traveled to Paris during the 1800's. The author describes the city and includes photos during that period and from I've read it seems that the city hasn't changed much.

  9. Excellent shot, and yes it could most definitely be the fifties..which was a great time to be in Paris..(for some people...just read a book about Paris in the Fifties)...except for the hint of the Grand Arch in the distance. The world seems to have taken leave of its senses...maybe we should return to the fifties..

  10. Love this timeless photo! Since it's even hard to see the cars, the only thing that gives it away as more recent (as tonton said) is La Défense just visible in the distance. (If you'd erased that in Photoshop, we'd never know!)
