Friendly brunch, New York style


One thing I love about PDP is that it allowed me to meet a lot of people from all over the world. Some I feel close to, even though I've only met them through my comments box (!), some I've met during my trips to New York, San Francisco, Australia or New Zealand, some I've met during casual drinks in Paris (here too) and of course some I've met during my annual PDP picnics. Last, but not least, some I've met on "special occasions"!). Throughout all these years I even made several true good friends. The two who invited me yesterday's morning (Saturday) to a typical New York brunch at their apartment in Paris (for they live in Paris at the moment) are among them: Lynn (aka PHX2CDG on PDP) and Eric (Aka Mr PHX2CDG!). A very happy moment (with not enough food as you can see in this photo!). Those who are familiar with PDP will also have recognized 3 other PDP regulars: Guille, Michael and... Monica (from Brazil), who "happened" to be in Paris too. I consider myself as very lucky.

  3. Before I even read your words I recognized Michael, Guille, Lynn, and Monica. I am sooo jealous. I wish I could have been there.

    I am sorry that there is not enough food!

  4. Oh, I'll bet you had fun. (Hi, Lynn, Guille, and Michael!) As much as I [heart] New York, I would love to be loving it from Paris, like all of you. One question: So where are the bagels and cream cheese? :~}

  5. Oh Jeff, you know this is Paris, so you can kiss a man here and not have to worry about your reputation :-)

    The food yo see here is only about a third of what Lynn & Co. prepared!

    @Alexa - there were so many bagels that I got a "sac de chienchien" to bring home. There was cream cheese, Bumblebee tuna salad, Triscuits (I didn't know I missed them until yesterday), Boar's head turkey and ham, and of course, Bloody Mary's compliments of our resident bartender Guille (would that make her a "barmaid"?)

    Thanks again Lynn and Eric for a wonderful spread of food and company!

  7. And not only all the food that Michael mentioned, but I found Aunt Jemima coffee cake mix( that even included the pan) and Michael baked it for me because I have no oven. I called Pillsbury and asked if their refrigerated cinnamon buns would make the trip over on a pressurized plane and they said no. I made a test run on a flight, and they made it over perfectly. Michael had the job of opening the package , plunking the readymade dough in the pan, and baking. The hard part was converting 350 degrees to centigrade! Whatevah (that is a New York accent), he was a GREAT help to me!

    We had GWEN here, a real New Yorker, who provided her New York accent, putting R's at the end of some words that have no R's, and making 3 syllables of works that only have 2, like Florida. (according to Michael and myself).

    PDP people made it a success , and from afar, Cali helped with the menu. Alexa...Fairway said their cream cheese was natural and wouldn't last over 4days so I actually bought some from Monoprix! The rugula
    from William Greenberg bakery was delicious.

  10. Did anyone notice, we got free t-shirts? I'm going to more of Lynn's parties! Oh yeah! And the napkins were $100 bills with NYC Key Chain napkin rings (got to steal those too!)

  11. Michael -- I am literally laughing out loud! They should probably name that frog Jean-Pierre. Enjoy your leftover bagels! (I rarely eat bagels, but am on my way out to get one right now. Have to have it.)

  12. I am happy I was part of it and keep being invited to the PDP events, even if I comment less and less (doesn't mean that I don't read!).
    It was a lovely brunch. And the food... OMG, the boar's head turkey was a "délice"!!
    Lynn and Eric (hers) were great hosts. We also had the pleasure to meet Lynn's sister, who is as beautiful as her!

  14. The brunch was fabulous and that's coming from me, Gwen, the "true New Yorker"! Lynn put out the perfect NY brunch from soup to nuts.. or should I say bagels to lox? It was great to meet Lynn's wonderful friends from around the world. Thanks Lynn and Eric for being the gracious hosts you are and introducing me to Paris like no others could. xo

  20. That all sounds amazing! I'm catching up on my week and look what I've been missing! :) Glad you had a fabu time and hope I can bring a Michigan fest sometime. Wouldn't that be fun. Morels and cherries with some great cheese and bread. Yum!

  21. I wished I had learnt about DPB when I visited Paris in 2008. Then I would have try to contact you for a meet-up! I can then post a pix on my blog to say that I have the honour of meeting the founder of DPB. Sigh! Now I wonder when will I visit Paris again!
