Paris Port

Where did I take this photo? In Camargues, where I’m currently spending the weekend? In Normandy, where I often go? Nope! In the middle of Paris! As a matter of fact if you look closely you can even see the Génie de la Bastille (the little guy up top the Bastille column) in the background of the photo. Believe it or not, there no less than 19 ports within the Paris area and they are not all for goods delivery. This one is called Le Port de l’Arsenal, it’s a “Port de Plaisance”, that is dedicated to yachts only. You can rent a spot for only 2 306 € a year if you have a small boat and … if you find room ;-)

  10. I bet there is a waiting list for mooring spots.
So, if you get one, buy an old boat, you can live here?
Sounds too good to be true, there's got to be a catch.

This channel leads to the Canal St. Martin, you can catch the boat further up which takes you into a long, dark tunnel under Place de La Bastille for a cruise up the canal to La Villette.

  11. How interesting! Definitely different than the marinas around here...but our bodies of water are a little bigger (the Great Lakes!) This photo is beautiful! What a perfect way to show summer.

  14. Nice pic Eric! I still remember seeing a house-boat resident walking in her bath robe to the showers when I walked by the Porte last time; we were in an apartment on Rue Castex. I think it would be pretty cold in the winter!
I've always wondered - can someone tell me whether the seine flows north or south?

  15. The Seine winds around changing direction...but at the main Left Bank/Right Bank area of Paris, it is flowing East-West, Jeff!

  24. The idea behind this article is excellent, and for me the first item ("Create your own damn content!") is the real gem here: most of the people spend their entire lives only consuming what is created by others, and creating nothing themselves--or never sharing what they create, which is better than not creating at all, though not the best they could do.
