Vive l'Australie !
Today the Tour de France landed on the Champs Elysées, like every year since 1975. You may know it already as this race seems to be extremely popular throughout the world (they say it is broadcast in 190 countries!), this year an Australian (Cadel Evans) won for the first time. I'm really happy for this country that I really like. Now I debated between showing you a photo of the winner and a stunning aerial photo of Paris that I stole from the television and... well the latter won! You can see the Seine on the left, the Eiffel Tower of course, in the foreground Le Grand Palais and the big avenue in the middle is... Les Champs Elysées. Again, a very rare occasion (with the 14 Juillet march) to see Paris from the Sky.

How exciting, Eric ~ such a magnificent event and so wonderful that Cadel Evans has won it after many years of dedication and hard work. And with the great support of an American team this year. They are calling for a public holiday to mark the occasion here. It's one big party!
ReplyDeleteAm so glad you commented first, Shell. Is this the first time in GF history that an Australian has been first? ;-) Party on!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Caddel Evans has won the Tour, because throughout his career, he deserves it. It takes a great year.
ReplyDeleteAfter several years of Spanish hegemony on the Tour this year has not been, but next year we'll try.
Congratulations to Cadel - for a well deserved win - and to all the other racers, too - for a really fantastic 2011 Tour de France. (What will next year bring for the French riders?!!!) I was swooning over all the aerial shots of Paris this morning. So, merci, Eric, for a new beauty to put in my slideshow. I don't know what I'm going to do with all the free time I have now. ; ) I can only imagine what kind of crazy is going to break out in Australia when one Mr. Evans shows up in town!
ReplyDeleteVery exciting for Australia (congratulations!) and what a wonderful shot. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe Tour is very popular in Australia, even though because of time differences it is shown between 10pm and 2am- it takes a lot of dedication to stay up til 2am for weeks and watch it! There were so many amazing shots of Paris (and France) during the coverage. This morning I had memories of our time in Paris last summer- we walked everywhere they were riding, and spent a lot of time in the Tuileries at the fair. So thrilling to see it again. Cadel rode such an amazing race this year, he certainly deserved the win.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for Cadel Evans and Australia! Job very well done indeed!
ReplyDeleteLOL, Cali! I'm sure it's not the first time but it was fun to happen upon it today of all days.
ReplyDeleteYou stole it from the TV?
ReplyDelete:-)
ReplyDeletePerfect choice Eric :)
ReplyDeleteApparently (from what I learnt from the TV tonight) Australia first entered in the Tour De France in 1914 and nearly 100 years later an Australian wins for the first time.
Yes it's very big news down here in Oz! What a gorgeous shot of Paris!!
ReplyDeleteI am sure the Aussies painted the Champs Elysee Green & Gold. Evans is a very worthy winner and many australians were bleary eyed at work. Great shot Eric. I feel even higher than the E T.

Very cool! So glad for Australia and Congratulations Mr. Cadel Evans! What an accomplishment. This picture is gorgeous. I can't imagine what it would be like to actually take it! (I know you didn't get the opportunity, Eric, but if you did have, you would! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Mr, Evans. No doubt there is a party going on in Australia.

C'est incredible!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome view, Eric. I even see my little chambre!
ReplyDeleteDid you know the Chinese are buying up Austrailia's wine companies--just heard it the other day from a Pennsylvania wine salesman!
Can't wait to get back to Paris and have to wear a jacket and sox! The sun has no mercy this summer.
Good choice, Eric! Way to go, Cadel Evans—you proved that tenacity pays off. And congrats to all my proud Aussie blogpals.
ReplyDeleteI watch the Tour every year .. not because I'm a biking enthusiast (I couldn't care less who wins), but because it shows me corners of France I've never seen before. The aerial shots -- especially when they're in the Alps & the Pyrenees -- are absolutely breathtaking. And I guess it gives us an idea of how important the Tour is to the French authorities, who apparently never allow planes/helicopters over Paris.
ReplyDeleteThat final day into Paris is always special. Not so much for the race and the riders, but for the aerial shots!
ReplyDeleteAustralians are always keen on winners. But I am glad we did not have a public holiday.
I have visit so many time to this blog. I was found this blog from Google.
