Urban weeds

I love the way people make use of urban furniture sometimes... Hence these poles which primer use is to prevent cars from parking on sidewalks (yes, people in France park on sidewalks if nothing prevents them from doing it!). Well, some people thought it was also the perfect place to grow "things" (which things, I don't know!) - I suppose they had to make the dirt holders to measure. Anyway, it's a clever idea and changes the looks of the street (I took this photo at rue Saint Marc, in the 2nd arrondissement).

  1. I love it - if they were to grow colorful flowers in them and do it all over, it would add another layer of beauty to the city.

  2. Looks like herbs, how inventive is that!! I think Monnica is right, flowers would be nicer and some are edible too haha!

  3. Bollards. And they are indeed creative in France. In Cannes, they are big balls rather than poles. (No inferences, kids.) These little sacks of soil and plants are really nice.

My Paris pal Craig had dinner with our other pal Tommy tonight. Tommy crashed on my hotel room floor in 2005 (Relais St. Sulpice). Don't know when I'll make it back, but it was fun talking about when we did.

  4. These bollards would look quite beautiful planted like this with colourful flowers as Monnica has said...although these leggy plantings are certainly interesting and avant garde!

  5. Love this one Eric! That's a great and totally off-beat idea, right up my street. Well, it isn't actually, or I'd go out and snap it right now. Is it 'un phénomène' or just a one-off, do you think?

  6. Je vote pour menthe, autre menthe (?), aneth et ?? Bambou, canne à sucre ?
En tout cas, en cas de consommation, attention au surdosage en plomb, et autres micro-particules joyeusement essaimées par les véhicules !!!!

  7. I can't imagine a mindset where a person feels entitled to park wherever he or she feels like it, whether it is convenient for others or not. Then again, we have no parking lanes here and people park there all the time! How rude. But this is an interesting twist; I like it! Creative and inventive.

  8. Creative and safe. A retailer in the US covered their large red ball (no inference here either) shaped bollard's with covers that made them look like colorful beach balls for the summer. They had to quickly remove them all as children were kicking them (and hurting toes) thinking they were beach balls. They were cute while they lasted.

  10. Very inventive. Who would have thought people would just park on the sidewalk, LOL! Like the idea of dressing up the deterrents.
