A real diner in Paris

Friday, July 29, 2011 Publié par Eric Tenin

A-ma-zing! if you're American, if you're in Paris and if you feel a little home sick, I have the perfect place for you! It's called Happy Days diner, and as its name let's you guess, it's a diner! But just not like a French imitation, a real one: with Formica tables, pastel colors, an old jukebox, an old US gas pump... You expect Fonzi to walk in any minute LOL! I know that you don't come to Paris to eat at a diner, but frankly this place is really worth a visit (there are actually 3 in Paris so far, I took this photo at the Hotel de Ville one).

what a fun place! diners aren't big where i live but when we went up to philadelphia, we had to cross over to new jersey just so we could see what a diner was really like! i think they are mostly poplular in ny and nj, although i don't know why that is!

I really do remember diners!! This place challenges my memory as a diner never had the waitresses on roller skates. That was the outdoor restaurants where they skated to your car, took your order and skated back with the food. It was put on a tray that attached to your opened window area.
    Now I really feel old........

Nothing beats a big greasy diner breakfast. We have a great one here called "Murphy's Mule Barn." No, I can't explain the name.

I remember drive-in restaurants with carhops, too, PHX, and I feel really old now, too.

Monsieur Brattcat would be so torn. He can't resist a good diner. But how could we possibly choose a diner over a Paris cafe?????

I'll take one of those Happy Hour Milkshakes (vanille s'il vous plait) :-)

Ooh, a good burger and fries and a shake. (I have to admit, I'd rather have a truffle infused omelette!) But once in a while, a good greasy burger hits the spot!

When I was about 5, my parents used to take me to a A&W and we would get root beer in very cold mugs and the waitress would bring everything to your car. I don't think they wore roller skates, since the parking lot was gravel, but that was the closest I can come to a diner with roller skates!

Notice that almost everyone used the word "greasy" in their description of a diner. And, somehow, it's a term of affection.

    Blech.

Cute photo, though. Are those boobs shiny from rubbing, like yesterday's sculpture?

I keep walking by this place but haven't gone in yet! I think I'm going to wait until the homesickness sets in. How's the food?

Well I hope their burgers are better than the greasy one I had in San Francisco yesterday for $14.10!! LOL! I rarely crave a burger but it has actually become difficult to find a good one in SF these days...I guess I need to go to Paris to get one now?! Fine with me!! LOL!

Loved the "bust" of Dalida yesterday; what a tragic life she had. Her tomb in the Cimetiere Montmartre is easy to find. It is enormous!!

French food and I didn't get along well, but I'm determined to keep trying. We have many diners in the western U.S., so I won't need to visit one in Paris. I believe they come from car culture, and a lot of travelers came out this way back in the day.

Greasy, no. I can skip that.
